I woke up abruptly. Overzealous JROTC Cadets ran and yelled on the high school track across the street. I rolled over and grabbed my reading glasses. Time to return to the book which Id fallen asleep reading. Its Leo Strauss and the Politics of Exile by Eugene Sheppard. Thirty minutes later, I faced a tough choice. Should I go down and check on my children? Or watch an old Lomachenko fight on Youtube? Then my wife called up, Babe, its garbage day. Take out the trash! So I rushed downstairs. My typical Saturday ritual. As I dragged the trash out a bizarre sound boomed from my phone. I read the message:
Ballistic missile threat inbound. Seek immediate shelter. This is not a drill.
So its today, I thought...

My real estate agent is out there on vacation. He took it in stride.
I grew up about ten miles from what I always figured was number one on the Soviet target list: Offutt Airfield in Bellevue, NE, the home of the Strategic Air Command. I never figured I’d live to adulthood. True story.
Yeah, I had a friend who was vacationing there. They were just outside of Honolulu when the alert hit their phones. Pulled over into a parking lot. They were mildly concerned, but according to him, everybody stayed pretty calm.
Strange aroma, smells like a Shadow President plot.
I said, "Eat ice cream!"
Im a student of the bloody twentieth century, a hundred years of genocide, democide, and total war.
I lived at the base of NORAD in CSC for years south of the Broadmoor. RUMINT said that a 300 Kt was aimed at NORAD. Nowhere to run, nowhere to hide, taken in stride.
NK reported sub missing, think Red October
I used to drive by an active missile silo in the late 1980’s for one semester in college. It was maybe 50 yards off the road, max (if you were going the right direction).
Minuteman II maybe Minuteman III by then. Always figured the Russians would try to dig that one out with a MIRV’d warhead (along with each of the others).

On the drive home, my ten-year-old son asked me this question: Dad, why dont we just nuke North Korea off the face of the earth, so we dont have to worry about this anymore.
I breathed deep and posed him another question. Are there children in North Korea?
Yes.
Are they as precious as you?
I dont know
Of course they are. Are there fathers in North Korea?
Yes.
Aree their lives as precious as your fathers? He didnt answer. So I concluded, It is better to suffer injustice than to inflict it.
Hmm ... just what was on live TV for those same 38 minutes ???!
Base of the mountain that is. the under ground complex is only an air station.
Same here. We lived near the Naval Ammunition Depot that had to be a prime target and my uncle was in SAC. I figured I’d go out in a childhood blaze of glory or die a long death from leukemia.
I always wondered how or if the adults knew the air raid siren tests were really just tests.
You are a good father and a wise dad.
I live in Oak Ridge, TN, and with the Mahatten Project, it was a prime target during the Cold War. I was told that if you saw The Big Blue Flash dont worry about it. It will all be over in a few seconds.
What to do?
Report to nearest bar, and partake of apocalypse happy hour specials.
Just a sample of what it’s like to live in Israel
This wouldn’t happen to be Warrensburg Mo.
