Rep. Kevin Cramer, a North Dakota Republican, announced Thursday he will not challenge sitting Democratic Sen. Heidi Heitkamp in the Senate race this fall.
During an interview with KFYR radio, Cramer said he and his family decided the best decision was for him to just run again for his House seat. The move is seen as a blow to Republicans who hope to pick up the seat in the traditionally deep red state.

Cramer's announcement comes after Cramer told CNN last week that President Donald Trump was urging him to run for Senate.

Not at the moment. However, they are going to have to get someone. I really think that Romona Romney is doing a crappy job as RNC. We need Reince back in that position. He was brilliant at it. We don’t even have a candidate for ever House election. Democrats are running a person in ever seat even deep red seats.
This is where we will see the “Party of Stupid” in full bloom. We had some recent previews, such as Alabama where Bitch McConnell bypassed a highly popular Tea Party candidate for his buddy Luther Strange. Left the door wide open for Roy Moore and there you go. Expect more of same.
Can’t understand how any of the upper west/Midwest states like ND, MT, SD ever elect dims.
I fear that this is because a number of ‘Republicans’ were put in place by the opposition (and by that I refer to something much more dangerous than domestic Democrats). That's not ‘tin foil hat’ commentary. It's a real consideration. We are an open society, and that provides a target for enemies, both foreign and domestic. Our open society is a treasure, but it also means we need to be much more vigilant and much less naive than we have been.
Democrats are very good at convincing the farmers that the subsidies will disappear if republicans get their way.
I have many farm relatives up there. It is nothing but rural welfare. They are completely brainwashed that they cannot survive without gubmint help.
WE need someone with BALLS like Trump!
It's easier.
My conspiracy meter is making some clicking sounds here.
I mean...has there been a time in our nation's history when we had this many bail out of Congress in the space of a year? I know, this guy is just refusing to run, but the big picture is scary. Did someone finally activate those missing FBI files? Or even not-so-missing files? Are these people being ordered to fall on their swords in a kamikaze-esque attempt to stop Trump? Getting out of the path of torches and pitchforks in some future event that they see coming in the very near future that we don't?
“The GOP isnt even putting up challengers. They may be trying to lose like they did in Alabama so they dont have to do the impeachment themselves.”
Almost seems like Republicans believe they are going to lose the house so rather than fight, they will take their campaign contributions and retire. This way their name isn’t on record.
Almost like what Bart Stupak did.
Part of it is they don’t want their names and their families dragged through the mud by unscrupulous, agenda-mad media.
[[as long as the farm subsidies kept rolling in.]]
And that sums it up perfectly-
This is depressing.....someone should have been lined up last year. This should be a GOP seat. I don’t know the ins & outs of how Romney is doing, but this seat should have been a major target.
Spot on post!
The reality is ANY sitting congressman would represent the uniparty first and the GOP second, Trump never and the voters, HA! Are you kidding me?
Should look at this as an opportunity to get a true outsider who actually does want to drain the swamp, and isn’t a part of it, to run against Heitkamp.
That’s exactly right. If the GOP had 90 seats in the Senate, they would form a “gang of 41” to obstruct any potential progress.
Who else is there to be a viable candidate? I don’t know anything about N. Dakota.
“I’m not a loser. Because I’m not even going to try.” ~ GOP
“Our rare opportunity to get 60 seats is slipping out of our hands”
The only reason we need 60 seats is because Mitch McConnell doesn’t have the balls to to the “nuclear option” and end that arcane Senate rule.
The Constitution only had us needing 50.
“The wives have to put up with their husbands cheating left and right. Who can blame them”
Most of the political wives are every bit as much a craven power seeker as their husband. Only they are even less honest because they don’t seek power through elections.
Screw those socialites.
North Dakotan here. Heidi Heitkamp is somewhere between a Blue Dog Democrat and a Rockafeller Republican. As a democrat, she’s pretty moderate. Which she has to be to win in an otherwise fairly conservative state. The real liberal/progressive Democrats tolerate her at best but get peaved off because she will vote on the Republican side of an issue if it affects ND agriculture/oil/coal. She knows she has to deliver on those issues and breaks step with her party.
