Earlier today President Trump held a meeting today with Democrat and Republican Senators surrounding one of the most controversial issues in the current body politic. The DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) and immigration reform, to include a border wall and an end of chain-migration policy, is a hot button issue on both sides of the political aisle.
President Trump surprised the entire MSM by allowing the media to stay in the meeting for an hour and hear the arguments/positions from all participants at the meeting. Extreme transparency.
Then they discussed chain migration and lottery. Trump said those should be ended. At first he wanted that in the deal (i.e. phase 1), later he appeared to allow that to be in phase 2. Then he said he trusts the congresscritters to do the right thing. Some Republicans said they wanted to make sure they had a bill Trump would sign. But Trump said he would sign a bill because they would do the right thing.
I am a Trump fan, always have been, and always will be. This was not deal making today, but giving in to the Dems. However that was also inevitable because the Dems are actually in charge of Congress even without the majority.
and we haven’t even gotten Trump lucid on education and the massive transformation applied to the kids which in turn is putting angry warriors into the streets.
Lots of reading required on this issue - the bedrock of this communist/open borders nightmare we are living with.
P3’s will not fix this as the abandonment of fact-based learning will remain.
That's nice but Congress won't vote for any of that. Trump has to remove the law breakers. Trump will sign a DACA amnesty in exchange for a wall, he said so today and he doesn't care what people think and said so. But ending chain migration and lottery is high on his list. Whether he gets those in the DACA deal is still up in the air.
Didn’t just float. Trump said he will trade DACA amnesty for a wall, and also wants ending chain and ending the lottery, but wasn’t as firm about those. He said that 10 or more times today.
I’ve read a couple of post-meeting tweets from Trump and in one he said this:
“As I made very clear today, our country needs the security of the wall on the southern boarder, which must be part of any DACA approval.”
I’m not sure what to think so I can only pray that Trump keeps his promises on immigration.
You are so right. Please google Mexican American Studies and read how these programs are tutning kids into radicalized, angry haters of America.
Google Earth the border and see if youu think that is wise.
I think Trump is trying to show he is being reasonable before he negotiates a very tough deal that the Dems will refuse and the media will attack.
I wasn’t implying those were the 2 phases proposed. I was just suggesting those would be the two phases I could agree too.
He said he’ll sign anything they send him.
That’s not good when 85% of Congress wants amnesty for all.
A DACA amnesty will increase pressure for a wider amnesty to cement in place the demographic changes that have been made to the country against the will of the citizens.
Every one that we let stay has two parents, siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins.
Then you will be disappointed. Nobody at the meeting today proposed sending DACA people home.
In this election year, with plenty of election anxiety to go around, I’d be surprised if they can send Trump anything to sign.
And I think Trump knows that.
I’m not worried... yet.

The Senate could have an amnesty bill next week.
The House is our only hope.
My husband and I are in the middle of watching the meeting on youtube. Our stomachs are turning: wanting to take the heat on getting DACA done; wanting to bring back earmarks and the happiness of Gramnesty and Steyn Hoyer. He wants to go back to the day when Repubs and Dems went out to dinner together. Fooey: It is all about the DACA so called kids.
As I look at FR tonight, there are very few comments. We conservatives are in a fetal position crying out, NO, NO, no, have we been had?
Phase 1. Immediate amnesty for Illegals.
Phase 2. Promise to talk about more border security some time in the distant future.

That’s exactly what happened in 1986 and what has been attempted multiple times since 2006.
Amnesty today for border security someday.
No enforcement will keep them coming.
If we do not restore the rule of law, we lose our country.

Of course not. Trump was a moderate, libertarian, with America first rhetoric, not a Cruz style hardliner. He is still America first with the wall to prevent future amnesties. DACA amnesty means he considers them Americans and that's a defensible assertion. There is in fact no better outcome possible and a lot worse outcomes (what would Hillar or Jeb do?)
However, I think you are correct about the earmarks. That's the reason the tea party did all their work. Now that will be undone. I believe Trump's reasoning is that the economy will grow enough that we can afford the big spending.
To be honest, Congress has never gotten anything close to a majority to cut spending. The only way Dems allowed the sequester was because it hit defense and they hate defense spending. So they will always increase spending. Americans will mostly vote for more spending with some tea party exceptions. Our choices then are inflation, default or growth.
