I never said a word about moving out of the USA.

You seem to be focused on inciting conflict.

Do as you please, I am certain that you represent a very tiny minority of FReepers. That is most evident when you express your extraordinarily weak minded views as somehow enlightened.

The NFL ratings are down about 20% over the last two years. I don’t buy that it was because of less compelling matchups, competition from one time events, or anything other than the anthem issue. There are plenty of good young players and things like the elections have come and gone, but the ratings just keep going down.

Of that 20%, I would guess that only 5% are absolute boycotters who say “no more NFL never”. The other 15% in ratings drop is due to people who are consciously watching less NFL because of the flag issue.

I am in that group. I watched an hour or two a week before 2015, cruising through channels on Sunday afternoons and stopping to watch for an hour if there was a team I liked or an exciting finish.

Now I will still check out the scores on the internet from time to time, but I don’t ever really watch the NFL on television if I’m by myself. The only time I watch is when I am with my 92 year old father, or my 75 year old father-in-law. They are both conservative and bothered by the kneeling, but still watch some. If it gives them some pleasure to do what they have done on Sunday afternoons for many years, I’m not going to spoil it for them.

Think about that. If 5% of their fan base has stopped watching all together, and another 30% of their fan base is watching only half as much, that adds up to the 20% ratings drop. That means 35% of their fan base are consciously choosing to watch NFL over this one issue. If one third of their steady fan base is pissed off about this, they have a huge problem.

From this article, it appears that the ratings decline is even steeper for the playoffs. That makes sense, because it is probably easier for the casual, who only tunes in for the playoffs, to turn it off, as opposed to the heavily invested regular season fans. It will be interesting to see how the Super Bowl is affected.

But the real concern for the NFL is long term. I think they blithely assume that the ratings decline is temporary. That once the kneeling is out of the news, and they have the off-season to conjole or pressure the remaining holdouts, the fans will come back. I think that won’t be the case.

My 92 year old father probably watches 6 hours a week. My 75 year old father-in-law watches 3. At 53 years old, I check the scores and watch only when someone else has it on. My 22 year old son cares nothing about the NFL and watches zero. Is there a trend here?

And then there’s my brother, who watches primarily because he knows others will be talking about it within the family and at work. How many casual watchers will drop away, once the critical mass drops below a certain point?

They have enough revenue now that for a few years they can go on pretending that its not a big deal. But when the TV contracts come up for renewal, when they explain to the players association that the salary pool is dropping by 20% for the next contract, then the panic will set in.

And by then it will be too late to win back the audience that they have driven away.

I watched exactly 1 1/2 NFL games this season.

Half of a Thanksgiving Day game because I was at someone else’s house and it was on.

One playoff game this past weekend because I had a relative on one of the teams playing in his first playoff game, and felt obligated to watch it.

Most boring football game I ever watched was Pitt losing to Oregon State 3-0 in a bowl game several years ago. That NFL playoff game was a close second.

“Additionally a slight decline in NFL TV ratings has less to do with your silly counter protest but more to do with the fact that millions no longer pay for cable known as cord cutters.” Right....

Yahoo polls, right when did they become credible.

https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/poll-hillary-clinton-win-election-162327502.html

Despite questions throughout the campaign about whether Millennial women would turn out to support Hillary Clinton, a new Cosmopolitan.com survey shows that a decisive majority of the site’s readers think Clinton should - and will - win the election in November. The survey of 1,097 women between the ages of 18 and 34 who were randomly selected from among Cosmopolitan.com newsletter subscribers and said they are likely to vote, revealed that 71 percent of Cosmopolitan.com readers would vote for Clinton if the election were held today, and 84 percent predict that she will win the presidency.

I believe it as it supports what the people I talk to say. I know cord cutters and I know people who are not watching the NFL anymore because of the stupid political BS. It seems to me that maybe cord cutting does not explain as much as people simply being turned off by the NFL’s politics or all sports ratings would be sucking just as badly as the NFL but they are not. I guess you think the empty seats and cheap ticket prices in the stadiums all season long were cord cutters too? I wish the NFL would get off all the dumb stuff including the stupid pink October thing and get back to just doing football Most people I know to don’t watch sports to be indoctrinated, they watch sports to be entertained. The NFL seems to have lost sight of that.

New England sold out every game, anecdotal evidence of some empty seats at a stadium for the 0-16 Browns the 5-11 Jets, The 3-13 Giants the 5-11 Broncos the 5-11 Bears the 5-11 Buccaneers the 4-12 Colts the 4-12 Texans the 6-10 Raiders or the 6-10 49’s or any of the other teams that stunk this year is not proof.

And i’ll say it again till i’m blue in the face boycotting the NFL over idiots like Colin kapernick is like boycotting the USA over liberals.

I'm quite well informed but please tell if 20% of people stopped buying cable do you think that 20% of people stopped watching TV no they just watch it online. same with the NFL you sad little temper tantrum isn't going to do anything plus its about as ridiculous as a pink pussy hat, actually maybe that would make your dumb protest more effective go stand in front of the stadium with a pink football on your head.

Wow. You're really doubling down on your support for a bunch of folk who don't give a damn about you. Hard to believe how emotionally involved you're getting over a silly game. I guess it makes sense in a way that you'd so strongly defend something that you've invested so much emotion in, especially considering how trivial the entire "sport" is in the scheme of things.

Enjoy carrying on with it. For myself, I've long considered all professional sports to be little more than modern versions of the Roman Circus, and is promoted for much the same reason, to distract an easily distracted citizenry.

I don’t care what you do. I don’t care what you watch I don’t care what you read.
I CHOOSE to watch football. If you don’t like it, tough shit.

How do you think the saying don’t throw the baby out with the bath water would relate to this issue?

I guess I’m more mature than some that I can seperate the the actions idiots like kapernick from the entity of the NFL. You however can’t, similar I imagine to those that think that crapping on cops cars or trashing a Starbucks is going to affect the outcome of an election.
