How Indeed Do You Defend Yourself From a Smear Campaign Alleging That You Are Stupid or Unstable?

This has been the modus operandi of the Left since the Eisenhower administration...at least.
Non-Democrat candidates and office holders are one of four things: Dangerous, Evil, Stupid, or some combination of those three things.
Eisenhower: Stupid
Goldwater: Evil and Dangerous.
Nixon: Evil, Stupid and Dangerous.
Ford: Stupid
Reagan: Evil, stupid, and Dangerous.
GHW Bush: Stupid, Dangerous
Dole: Stupid
GW Bush: Evil, Stupid, Dangerous
McCain: Stupid and Dangerous (Okay, they were right there)
Palin: Stupid
Trump: Evil, Stupid, Dangerous. Squared. (Add new one, which will be rolled out for all future non-Left candidates: Insane)
Don’t forget the “amiable dunce” that was used to describe Reagan. Saturday Night Live created that one. Also, Ford was “clumsy” in addition to being stupid.
All the while portraying their guy/gal as smartest person on planet.
Kennedy, bay of pigs, Vietnam
Johnson, bigger Vietnam, welfare state
Carter, mr malaise
Clinton B, Bj s in Oval Office
0, couldnt get Chicago Olympics, most corrupt potus
Clinton H, deplorables, bengaazi
“Add new one, which will be rolled out for all future non-Left candidates: Insane.”
It’s actually not new.
The Soviets frequently dealt with dissidents by having some quack declare said dissident “insane” and then locking him away in an asylum, replete with shock therapy and massive drug dosages, so that he or she eventually does become legitimately insane -— at which time the shell of the former dissident was brought out and shown to crazy.
Heck, this was right out of the end of “1984.”
