Put me in your will if your kids don’t want it. That is one bad assed receiver. Acoustically I still prefer my 2020, but that is one party machine. You can throw a breaker with one. Raw power. GTO kinda power. Most of that 80 lbs is transformers.
BTW, get it serviced. It is worth $1500+. It is like grandma’s jewelery.

The boom is greater with more watts, but it depends on the speakers efficiency BIG time. If you like Boom Ting go with Klipch. If you are having a frat party Klipch Horns. They sound awesome at lower volumes (ie < 120 spl) too. Have listened to them extensively. Would pair extremely well with the 1980.
I have the original CS-922A speakers (paid $127.50 each). It takes a lot of power just to light the first green light on them. I had a pair of Bose 901 Series IV (rated unlimited power) but they had to much hiss for me. I paid $610 for that pair, but sold them years ago. I kept a poster on the wall and at volume could make the poster dance with all of the air going out the back of the speaker.
Spent 3 years in VP-8 during the 70s. We were flying the oldest P3-A Orion’s in the fleet. Deployed to Bermuda, Lajes and Keflavik.
I never knew they made one that big. I still have my SX-780 that I bought around 1978 - primo condition and in the original box. I’ve got several stereos that I bought over the years and tried not to part with anyone them except an old 8-track I got in 1972 (still have the speakers though, I think).
I still have my 8-track component too. I bought my receiver in 1979 (Feb IIRC).
I’ve got a JVC with CD - I meant to buy the cassette - almost glad I didn’t though I would have liked to record some Christmas music - songs I didn’t know (2) - my phone will tell me what they are if I can get them played at the right level.
So the Pioneer, Two JVC’s and another TV sound system (new) are all in their boxes. Plus a brand new set of speakers I bought and never hooked up - Sony’s I think - boxes got damaged but the speakers were still in the plastic. It was like $1000 for them - now almost 20 years ago.
I used to have stereos all over my house and at the office to keep me occupied while I worked - really helped when writing software. i have another office JVC but it’s just a single CD with radio. Still it’s easy enough to take in the car.
