WASHINGTON The shooting looked bad. But that is when the professor is at his best. A black motorist, pulled to the side of the road for a turn-signal violation, had stuffed his hand into his pocket. The white officer yelled for him to take it out. When the driver started to comply, the officer shot him dead.
The driver was unarmed.
Taking the stand at a public inquest, William J. Lewinski, the psychology professor, explained that the officer had no choice but to act.
In simple terms, the district attorney in Portland, Ore., asked, if I see the gun, Im dead?
In simple terms, thats it, Dr. Lewinski replied.
When police officers shoot people under questionable circumstances, Dr. Lewinski is often there to defend their actions. Among the most influential voices on the subject, he has testified in or consulted in nearly 200 cases over the last decade or so and has helped justify countless shootings around the country.
His conclusions are consistent: The officer acted appropriately, even when shooting an unarmed person. Even when shooting someone in the back. Even when witness testimony, forensic evidence or video footage contradicts the officers story.

The police would not get there in time. If I get an intruder at 2am, I would be having to deal with him myself.
It was an honor to protect the community; a calling.
The height requirement in LA dropped to 5’0” over the years and right now . . . no height requirement at all!
This one is just another rabid badge-licker, do not waste your time.
Cop would have done better to
1) Told the motorist to not move when he reached in his pocket.
2) Cop moves back so that he is not easily targetable.
3) Cop tells the motorist, "Now, slowly, I want to see your empty hands out the window of the car."
The job was a MANs job. The first thing that went when women were imposed on the male environment was standards and merit. The reason that men maintained these standards was because they had a sense of responsibility. After all there is no one to do the job if men fail. Well there is no more merit. No more standards and precious little responsibility, as these events demonstrate. A cop doing ANY of these things 50 yrs ago went to jail.
It is getting close to the point that much of the public is starting to view cops that way.
If a cop is injured on the job, the township can potentially face $millions in workman's comp and other expenses. If a cop shoots a civilian, the police department's budget is not affected.
One solution would be, if there's an unjustified killing, one byproduct is the police pension fund loses a few million $$$. Training and ROE would change quickly.
How do you know they weren't doing them 50 years ago?
I agree and apparently so does Pres. Trump who has loosened the ROE for the military.
Call this Lewinsky clown, he will make sure it is seen the woman posed a deadly threat as to make the killing a righteous one.
Just ask that Australian girl in Minneapolis how asking the police for help went. Oh, that’s right, a cop shot her in cold blood.
Nevermind.
I'm going to dial 1911.
When there is a threat to your life, YOU are the first responder.
YOU.
Not somebody in a uniform miles away.
YOU.
Are YOU prepared?
BWAHAHAHAHahahahahahaha!!! I bet you actually believe that ...
Cops dont have that benefit.
Their "enemy" is most certainly NOT "We, the People". If they can't figure that out, they need to take off their uniforms, turn in their badges, and find another line of work.
They work for US. Deal with it.
I honestly think most police shootings of unarmed citizens are tragic accidents. But the overwhelming majority of those tragic accidents are avoidable if officers are properly trained in how to actually deal with people, not just bark orders and then go in to a blind panic when things don't go as expected.
An police officer who is prone to panicking is not a good police officer.
Uh...because they couldnt. MEN would become outraged and disgusted by their pussy tendencies and deal with them approiately. I don’t know how old you are but ONCE, a cop killing without CAUSE was up shit creek.
Only when caught.
I say in all seriousness that that is already too much. Wait for your lawyer to tell you that it's ok to say that you shot a guy.
I recall a thread here on FR earlier this year where an employee in a gun shop (Houston?) shot an armed robber dead. He called 911 and said something like he had discharged his weapon within the Houston city limits, not that he had shot somebody.
Yeah, but THAT is another story.
“Police are not perfect but I doubt any of the keyboard warriors here would do their job no matter what the pay.”
I am not a plumber or a trash man either but I also don’t want people doing those jobs shooting people with little to no provocation.
Oh hey, not wanting to get MURDERD by someone in a uniform must make me a cop hater.
