What’s really scary is for we-the-people to face the reality that it is true. The Associated Press “wire” is a continuous virtual meeting of all major American journalism. Adam Smith predicted the dolorous result of such a thing:

People of the same trade seldom meet together, even for merriment and diversion, but the conversation ends in a conspiracy against the public, or in some contrivance to raise prices. It is impossible indeed to prevent such meetings, by any law which either could be executed, or would be consistent with liberty and justice. A conspiracy? Against the public? What! Of course no one could believe any such thing of wire service journalism.

Unless of course such journalism became politically monochromatic, systematically libeling American society and promoting a political party which nominates shady characters for high office on a consistent basis . . .
