They stand like surreal monuments in the California scrubland: prototypes of Donald Trump's proposed "big, beautiful" border wall between the US and Mexico.
The eight 30ft high slabs are the first tangible part of the controversial project that the US President says will help solve America's immigration problems.

If you build it, they won’t come.
No wall will be effective unless there is somebody observing for climbers, and making life unpleasant for them.
A guard tower with machine guns every 1/2 mile would increase the reliability. 4 guys on rotating shifts per tower is only 16,000 patrol officers. ICE already has 20,000 employees. Put them all on the border. Better yet, put them all on the border until the wall is actually built.
You’re right I don’t know you or anything about you but it sounds like you know quite a bit about building a border wall so my suggestion would be tell us all how it’s done send it to the president & get it started by the end of the week. And thank you in advance.
I could be persuaded. Actually, I remember someone a few months ago mentioning a desert cactus/plant that grows naturally in the border areas and that has razor sharp spines that are nearly indestructible. Maybe we should plant something like that along the Mexican-facing side before the wall goes up, just as an additional layer of protection. Of course, they could try to burn it I suppose, but I still like the belt and suspenders approach.
Uh, no. The A-12 design was started in late 1957 and first flight was in 1962. The SR-71 (which is a variant of the A-12) didn’t fly until December 1964. That’s a bit more than two years total development time here, dude - I’ll take your retraction now.

The Berlin wall, aside from some few escapes, was highly effective.
The walls in N Ireland are also effective, for reasons to keep two factions apart.
The Israeli system doesn’t prevent tunneling even 1’ under the surface. The Israelis are looking for a new system as well.
You have just described the difference between Donald Trump (a businessman) and ‘normal’ government work.
With 24/7 multi-mode surveillance and rapid response BP teams, somehow an attempt to bore/grind/dig through, could become known as a very foolish thing to do.
I predict that Mexico, which is in a big hurt right now, will seek any means to repair relations with the US to the point of stationing its troops at the border to assist calls from US BP command posts.
The would-be border busters could face a bigger threat from the Mexico side.
What you describe is a metaphorical wall
It can be put in place when Trump makes an offer the mexican president dares not refuse
How far below ground does it go?
Minimum 6 with sensors.
You are a fan of fire, ready, aim???
How hard would it be to bore through steel-reinforced concrete,....
The testing phase will answer those questions, and the specs give minimum times.
Yes, there will be a physical wall with US BP on one side and a firing squad of Mexican regulars on the other side that will appear after President Trump gives the Mexican President as you say ‘an offer he can’t refuse’.
Nice pictures. Now do you really think those methods wont attract attention???
The prototypes are deliberately being tested against those types of breaching tools (battery operated jack hammers, grinders or saws; sledgehammers, chisels and torches). Breaching and tunneling tests are being conducted on samples of the prototypes at an undisclosed location - only scaling will be tested on the full-size prototypes. The breaching requirement looks at slowing breachers down to at need at least an hour, and looks at the cost-effectiveness of repairing breaches.
So rebar in the concrete, and enough of each (of hard enough composition), with rapid detection and response, will prevent all but the most organized and determined (para-military) attempts in urban areas. In rural areas, the detection and interdiction timelines are longer, and the volume is much lower.
Breaching, scaling and tunneling are the main threats being evaluated. Nothing can be perfect, so they seek to get the best value mix. The bottom line is that they are shooting for a dramatically more effective barrier system. Even much less robust barriers (like San Diego Sector’s) have already shown to be dramatically effective.
Put a couple of rows of dragons teeth on both sides. That will stop ramming
Be tired then. This is not a re-run. It is the latest on a developing story. Youve made it clear to everyone that you want immediate gratification and you want it now. Thats just too damn bad for you. Now if you have anything other than your stompy foot impatience let us know.
Exactly. It seems some here want to build a wall like we built the TSA.
