A study of Frances national crime agency, found that more than 220,000 women were groped, kissed and sexually assaulted on French public transport over a two-year period.
The crime agency calls the total number of incidents of the 2015-2016 study, a conservative estimate.
Although the public mostly focuses on domestic violence, sexual violence committed on the street, on public transport or in other public places is just as serious, and merits more attention, the report says.
An earlier study, of the National Observatory of Crime and Criminal Justice (ONDRP), found that 267,000 people were sexually harassed on French public transport between the years 2014 and 2015. At least 85 percent of them were women and incidents included kissing, groping, flashing and even rape.
