I read a story somewhere that German and British soldiers climbed out of trenches in WWI and played soccer on Christmas.

True and not a story. They actually did that much to the aggravation of their superiors.

There is also the true story of US and Germans getting together to liberate a castle in Austria at the end of that war.

The Germans helped fight off the SS there.
