Pit bulls have a bad rap. Ive heard of golden retrievers doing this too.
I suppose if a non-Moslem commits a terrorist attack, you'd say that's clear evidence that the Moslems are getting a bad rap.
I'm not going to do a count, but a quick scan of this list makes it look like 90+% of the fatal attacks in recent history are done by dogs with pit bull genes: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fatal_dog_attacks_in_the_United_States
I actually had to beat the aggressiveness out of my golden.....a very aggressive pup, that is now a very sweet old dog. Not a dog for children in her youth.
One of those will cost you 350-500 bucks, on up...You can get pit bulls for nothing...And they're cute when they're puppies...Pit bulls have come to out number all other breeds put together...it's likely the sheer numbers of these dogs that makes their attacks top the chart...
Retrievers bite you and it hurts...Pit bulls bite you and kill you...So they aren't getting a bad rap...like getting bitten by a lizard compared to getting bitten by an alligator...
Any medium (25-60 lb) to large (60-175 lb) dog can kill you.
The only difference between Pit Bulls and MOST other dogs is the size to strength ratio.
Huskies, Akitas, Malamutes, German Shepherds, Rottweilers, Jack Russel Terriers, Australian Shepherds, take your pick, any of these dogs can and do kill people and they are popular breeds.
Pit Bulls are naturally tough, strong, aggressive dogs.
I have one Pit in my pack right now, he has been involved in one and only one fight with another pack member. Within a week of Billy joining our family he got into a fight with George (an 89 pound Rottweiler), Billy weighed in at 47 pounds when he picked the fight.
It was a dominance fight and they both learned within 30 seconds who was the dominant male in our pack, that would be ME.
Billy has been with us for 7 years now and there haven’t been any more confrontations, in fact Billy and George are good friends now and even sleep on the same doggy bed.
Trust me people, it’s not all NATURE, most of it is NURTURE.
Every dog has an individual personality, every responsible owner has to understand that personality and DEAL with it.
All dogs can bite.
BUT
Comparing pit bulls and golden retrievers is a bit of a stretch. If and that is a huge IF a golden bites it’s usually a nip, not a full latch on and shake as a pit bull does.
I have a chocolate lab, and I know that she will bite if we (and especially my son) are threatened in any way. She will give plenty of warning though with the raised hackles, growling/barking, and bared teeth. As long as she doesn’t see you as a threat, she is just a big ol’ ham that wants belly rubs.
