I was on Amtrack out of Lorton Virginia when it derailed off the track before even leaving the depot...simply slide off the track. Couple hours delayed in order to lift it back on track.

probably a reference to the Cascade mountain range which lies east of where the derailment occurred.

Simmer down. Why not wait and see? It is way too early to cast blame. SMH

How in hell does the train catastrophically derail at just 18mph?

Hate to say, but that’s worse than if it had been speeding!

Just heard on CNN an off hand reference that the accident may have had something to do with cutbacks in regulations and inspections by President Trump.

We have lived in this area for our entire lives. Sound Transit our friendly local 50 Billion dollar public transportation government boondoggle has spent 800 million dollars upgrading this stretch of track. So it certainly had nothing to do with a restriction of funds by Donald Trump.

This was the maiden voyage of an Amtrak train going on this stretch of track and they could only half fill their 150 seat train. This is a government boondoggle on steroids. In total, billions of dollars are being spent on a train that typically is only half full even though it is only designed to carry 150 people in total.

I have been fighting this nonsense for years. It would take a book the length of war and peace to document the horrendous waste of government funds involved in this joint Sound Transit / Amtrak project. Billions of dollars have been spent on a project that was never even expected to benefit more than a very small number of passengers. I wrote dozens of letters over the years to our local paper. Supposedly spending all this money on this lunacy was going to emit less carbon dioxide and save the earth.

And the lawyers will flock to the area like the swallows returning to Capistrano or Vultures to a roadside ‘feast’.

I don’t know. A mayor of a local town warned two weeks ago an accident would happen because they didn’t want to spend money on some kind of rail guards. Of course CNN is blaming Trump.

You would not have known it derailed unless they announced it because it happened at another car.....”jumped” the track would say it better.

Lived in Vancouver, WA for years and have taken this train many times to Mariner baseball games. This is sad, especially this time of the year.

Just heard it was 81 mph just prior to jumping. Lead engine looks headed south on I-5.

As a young boy I recall watching a freight train at full speed hit a child’s tricycle someone had left on the track. That thing took off and flew fifty yards like had wings.
