After Alabama loss, Trump has ambitious plans to campaign in 2018 midterms (MAGA Phase II)

President Trump is not on the ballot in 2018, but the White House is planning a full-throttle campaign to plunge the president into the midterm elections, according to senior officials and advisers familiar with the planning.

Trump’s political aides have met with 116 candidates for office in recent months, according to senior White House officials, seeking to become involved in Senate, House and gubernatorial races — and possibly contested Republican primaries as well.

The president has told advisers that he wants to travel extensively and hold rallies and that he is looking forward to spending much of 2018 campaigning. He has also told aides that the elections would largely determine what he can get done — and that he expects he would be blamed for losses, such as last week’s humiliating defeat that handed a Senate seat in Alabama to a Democrat for the first time in 25 years.

“For the president, this isn’t about adulation and cheering crowds,” White House political director Bill Stepien said in an interview. “This is about electing and reelecting Republicans.”

But getting deeply involved in the midterms could be a highly risky strategy for a president with historically low approval ratings, now hovering in the mid- to low-30s in many national polls, and might be particularly disruptive in primary contests pitting establishment candidates against pro-Trump insurgents. Last week’s upset in Alabama — where Democrat Doug Jones defeated Republican nominee Roy Moore — came after Trump endorsed two losing candidates in both the primary and special election.

It’s ironic that the guy who’s been so critical of the GOP Establishment now finds himself campaigning for them. But it was very predictable. If the Dems take over he’ll likely be impeached. They won’t have the votes to remove him but you’re fooling yourself if you think that will stop them from impeaching him.

Awesome news from a usually hostile source.

Can’t wait to watch my President reshape the GOP in his own image!!!
He knew that Luther Strange was the safe bet in Alabama and I trust his political instincts.

This should be a blast to enjoy President Trump taking full charge of his party and enhancing the chances of enacting his MAGA agenda!!!

How strongly will Trump’s efforts align with Bannon’s on Senate Races?

I think that it is more of a case of how the GOPe screwed things up so badly (and also how they deliberately threw it in Alabama as well) that Trump will have to step in and work with the successful methods he likely has.

Compost may have gotten something right. Trump and I have come to the same conclusions. He’s going to go on the offense, prepare for Dem dirty tricks, and go barn storming state after state. He will out think the idiot Media and Dems.

650,000 Trump voters stayed home on Dec. 12.

That says it all.

Where Trump can be most effective is to help primary these RINO back stabbers. Trump has the power to show up get his candidate elected in nearly every Republican primary. The threat and actual sight of him doing this may be the catalyst for many GOPe types to have their “come to Trump moment”

I love Axelrod smirking that the rats want Trump on the campaign trail. What total BS if Trump is working for a conservative, non compromised candidate. “Don't throw me into that brier patch”.

This sounds like a great plan.

After his first year in office, Pres. Trump undoubtedly has a good idea who his congressional swamp enemies are.

We shall see how that works out.

Here in Pennsylvania for Governor the Republican Establishment candidate is House Speaker Mike Turzai.

I know Turzai has been to the WH.

But the outsider candidate here is State Senator Scott Wagner, who defeated the GOPe candidate as a write-in when we had a special election for the state senate seat.

No more Luther Strange endorsements please like Mr. Turzai here in PA.

I will go a step further. If the Dems win the house, it would be irresponsible and ungrateful of them to NOT impeach him.

Also an advert blitz in needed to go around the lying media. Trump needs to push his accomplishments and the economy and make it known he needs people to support his agenda. a great ground game is also needed for these pukes. Trump didn’t need that but the pukes will.

Losing Jeff Sessions' seat was a wake-up call that no seat is safe. We need to nominate electable, vetted candidates and fight for every vote.

I heard rumors that Trump wants to investigate election fraud. Why not start with the Moore election?
