IMO, the FBI debated whether or not to pay for it in order to add credibility to their FISA application in regard to having their own sources and methods.

Good point. Did they even tell the FISA court that the information had originated in oppo research commissioned by the Hillary campaign?

they would never be foolish enough to apply for a FISA with admitted oppo research. They would have claimed credit for obtaining the dossier through their own methods.

One better: Did the FBI tell the FISA judge that they had paid the informant to “verify” the information? I’m guessing there is a 100% chance that they didn’t because their is a 100% chance the judge would have denied the request had he known.
