Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) has threatened to vote against the tax bill, putting the legislation in danger of being delayed past Christmas.
Rubio has told Senate leaders that he will vote against the bill unless the child tax credit is made more generous to help lower-income workers who pay payroll taxes and not regular income taxes.
Sen. Rubio has consistently communicated to the Senate tax negotiators that his vote on final passage would depend on whether the refundability of the Child Tax Credit was increased in a meaningful way, said a spokesperson for Rubio.
If Rubio votes against the bill, Republicans can only lose one other lawmaker if they hope to pass the final bill that emerges from a House-Senate conference. Sen. Bob Corker (R-Tenn.) previously voted against the Senate tax bill because it would add $1.5 billion to the deficit, and no Democrats support it.
Corker has not ruled out voting for the final conference report, though he suggested his concerns have not changed.

No! I don't have kids. I do pay to send several to school and pay for their meals. Why should I pay you to have kids you don't seem to be able to support without Government assistance which I also pay for in higher taxes!
It would be nice if someone ran against this creap
Why is any tax credit refundable!? We should get rid of any kind of rufundability. If you didn’t pay it in withholding, you shouldn’t get it ‘back’!
These Republicans are making me angrier every day. I wish we had term limits and clean both the democratic and republican chambers. If they don’t get Tax Reform done by Christmas, the republicans are going to get killed next year. And the stock market will drop 2,000 points. UGH!!!
Like most of the RINOs, he’d made a good, solid, liberal, dimocommiecrat.
I support the earned income child tax credit for those who pay taxes, but Marco wants the credit to go to families who pay no federal income tax
Thats ridiculous. Nothing more than income redistribution
If you receive more money from the government than you pay in federal taxes, then that money comes other tax paying Americans
That means other peoples taxes have to be higher in order to give you free money
I am very unhappy with this tax bill. I own a service company that does web design and web hosting and we will not see a tax cut. In actuality we probably will see a tax increase. I am tired of these people not supporting the people that elected them and I do not know what recourse we have.
Or those of us that I take care of our elderly
To become President learn to compromise.
They each need their time to grandstand and get the people to see their bravado. Pure Bull.
I pay tens of thousands of dollars in taxes and you have no idea what your talking about. I want my own money back and don’t need anything from you or anyone else. The child tax credit back is only a small piece of what is taken from me for big government and again, what I get back is ALL MINE. You people are being obtuse at this point. Go support higher taxes and be a hypocrite.
He’s my Senator. Last time I saw him I had a red maga hat in my hand he got the message loud and clear,he’s a putz.Front running phony gang of eight, which says it all and most likely deep state.
Dems don’t pull that crap they are forced to stick together or pay a horrendous price from Chuck you or the wacky witch of the west.
The Earned Income Tax Credit is just welfare by another name. We are in very dangerous territory when the majority of people in the U.S. pay no net income tax. It creates the wrong incentive.
Those of us who will be paying more taxes are just happy that our money will be going to a good cause.

I agree that people like you who pay federal income tax should get a child tax credit. But Rubio is trying to give the credit to millions of Americans who pay zero federal income tax.
He is trying to take some of that tens of thousands in tax that you pay and give it to people who pay no federal income tax
I take it that you dont do your own taxes? Or, if you do, you use a tax software program, just key in the raw information and the software magically does everything for you?
The reason I ask is that you dont seem to understand what is meant by tax credit and how the computations are done. So things in this thread seem to just be going over your head or maybe you;re just having a mental block on this.
So whats your take on why the biggest EITC States are in the South?
Low wages and large families?
More illegal aliens committing fraud?
Higher percentage of gibsmedats , both white and black?
Very interesting.
