The fears are, unfortunately, not totally unfounded. I graduated from college a couple years ago -- after a spate of real and imagined sexual impropriety, the university required all students to take sexual harrassment training and issued guidelines thar stated, among other things, that unintentional physical contact can be investigated as sexual harrassment. In such an environment of insanity, imagine where normal flirting can be placed on the spectrum -- if the female decides to make it an issue. I understand and am likewise discouraged by the utter negativity towards women that is displayed on these kinds of threads, but I also acknowledge that much of it, while unfounded in itself, is the result of legitimate pain from getting screwed over.

Did you see the article that was posted a couple times the other day, some Harvard student confessing to discussing the attractiveness of his female classmates? Felt it was his duty to out himself for this awful crime. Flip the coin -- there are countless women who feel it is THEIR duty to smash, annihilate, ruin, any man who is guilty of a crime similar to that of the goofball Harvard student I mentioned. As a man, dealing with women can feel like playing Russian roulette. All it takes is one misstep, or one innocent interaction with the wrong girl. Boom, an allegation that in and of itself can ruin your life. It doesn't take 50 years in jail to make you miserable.

Again, the hatred of women and the whole MGTOW thing are wrong and discouraging. But they didn't spring out of thin air.

At work the other day I was talking about my Scottish heritage with a guy and I mentioned my mother had told me I was from the Campbell clan but I thought much earlier I had been told I was from the Stewart clan, so was it possible to be from two clans, and about the third time I said ‘clan’ I saw this black woman’s head snap around and I was like, aw jeez, here we go. Probably not ok to use the word clan in any context now.
