At work the other day I was talking about my Scottish heritage with a guy and I mentioned my mother had told me I was from the Campbell clan but I thought much earlier I had been told I was from the Stewart clan, so was it possible to be from two clans, and about the third time I said ‘clan’ I saw this black woman’s head snap around and I was like, aw jeez, here we go. Probably not ok to use the word clan in any context now.
That’s awful. I once dropped black ink on my yellow coat and exclaimed in a horrified voice “Oh, now it’s all black!” Black woman’s head snapped around...
You can’t make stupid people smart, I’m afraid.
Use the word “clan” anyway, and the snowflakes can go to hell.
