After years of strong gains in states across the country, Republicans now fear they stand to lose hundreds of state legislative seats in next years midterm elections if there is a significant voter backlash against President Trump.
Any losses would come at the worst time: Just ahead of the redistricting process that begins with the 2020 census.

THEN go scorched earth.
They don’t give a dmn for us or who.. but they o give one for their power and ability to keep it.
If you notice last several years, if the outcry is loud enough and long enough, they eventually care enough to try to save their hide.
They say Bannon failed on this one. He’s a lone voice in the wilderness of power. He is an unlikely candidate to do what he’s trying to do.... He was not well liked by anyone in Washington ans he always looks sorta unkempt, .. and presentation is everything. Perhaps a suit or nice jacket instead of the drab one he wears...
and he could juice up his speeches more. plus can he get a person or 2 to go to bat for him while he’s out there.
He needs to speak like Newt used to .. hard hitting and/or use Reagan humor.. otherwise a boring speech gets no where.
The dems promise everything and deliver none but enough voters believe their lies.
When Dubya won in 2000 I said, “This is good, but all it does is put off the inevitable for another four years.”
Same with the election of Trump. This sort of thing always reaches the same destination, though the path may vary somewhat.
We are an economy based on fiat money, and ever increasing wealth distribution. We are, in a way, living in Dr. Zhivago but without the love triangle.
Let them think that.
Yep, Trump may wind up being merely a “Stay of Execution”.
We are in an economic mess that only gets bigger. And I base it on how I perceive the american economy and that of western civilization in general.
America got rich rebuilding the world after WWII. But that train left the station decades ago. We’ve been living mostly on our credit cards ever since. And we are quickly approaching the point where the debt service is higher than our income.
That never ends well, even if you can declare leaves to be $100 bills.
1. There is potential for an anti-Trump backlash among the welfare class - their win in Alabama once they smelled blood is proof.
2. There is potential for an anti-establishment backlash among conservative voters - their anger over the establishment betrayal and unnecessary loss in Alabama could last.
3. There is potential for an anti-voting backlash among republicans - their irritation over Congress refusing to repeal Obamacare now that the vote could actually count is a real risk.
Solution?
Focus on meaningful, conservative legislation:
- Repeal Obamacare
- Pass the hearing protection act to eliminate restrictions on silencers
- Pass concealed carry reciprocity
- Fund the wall, for real
- Shrink the federal government
- Pass real immigration reform that shrinks the number of immigrants and puts American workers first
If GOP Congresscritters care about keeping their majority, they have to use that majority to pass the laws they campaigned for that motivated our votes.
I think you've hit on an important element of this discussion that people are missing.
Trump has tapped into a deep distrust of government, of the swamp, of people being sold a bill of goods in the name of diminished sovereignty and little respect for the Rule of Law. He (and Bannon....let's not throw out the baby with the bath water) rode that to the White House.
This loss is not a cause for fear, but for awakening and mobilization. There is a need for Deplorables to start their own "farm system" as the Tea Party did, for vetting and prepping candidates. The GOP won't help...we gotta get moving on our own.
That said, when I see people arguing, cynically, that critics of Roy Moore should have purged their music and video/movie collections of all works featuring David Bowie, Chuck Berry, Led Zeppelin, the Who, R Kelly, and others, then we are in trouble.
Yes, they seem to conveniently forget about the primaries :-)
Then they darned well best get on the Trump Teain cause the wimpy crap is a losing venture
I wouldn't be too sure of that. There is a James Baker in waiting bet on it.
You hit the nail on the head. Mitch McConnell and his GOPe henchmen cut off funding to Moore from the get-go. They may as well have been cheerleading for Jones, the result is the democrat won. It's not as if they couldn't have predicted that outcome right from when they started besmirching Moore up to planning a meeting what to do if Moore won.
The past year has not inspired much hope for that.
Never have been really. The Crevo threads of yesteryear were very foul. There are plenty of Christian haters on the Moore threads this morning so hang around and balance some of it out.
Notice that few of our people seem to concerned about Senator Menendez who is under indictment for corruption and connections to the Lolita Express.
Wasn’t Menendez aquitted?
What do they expect when they stay the course.. same old crap .. where is the vision to lead? to succeed?
Ryan? Mitch? Huh??
Just wow.
I wouldn’t put it past the GOP to deliberately blow the mid terms just so they can get back into their comfort zone of being losers.
You have exactly zero evidence of that. You do however have evidence of Forgery on evidence to support an unknown charge. There is no one, no one, saying that Roy more had improper sexual relations with anyone, unlike our esteemed two term ex president.
Go find a mountain and take a hike.
Just so you know, I’m not alone. We’ve had it with the #uniparty. They can put up or shut up. If they could not do it in two years, it’s because they don’t want to do it.
