Chris Matthews has come close to calling a liar an Alabama woman who said her grandmother was 16 when she married a man in his 30s.
On this evenings Hardball, Boston Globe reporter Annie Linskey said that a woman she interviewed in Alabama told her that her grandmother had married at 16. Matthews retorted, yeah, but her grandfather was 17. Linskey replied, no, no, he was in his 30s. Shot back a skeptical Matthews:
No! Are they dreaming this up just to win the case down there? That seems very convenient.

Great point!
Who was his first cousin!
Bing Crosby was 30 years older than his last wife, Kathy Grant, and sired several children with her. Where was the outrage, except by jealous men?
Mad Mo’ apparently married a youngin...
The Libs LOVE them some Mad Mo’...
“...all ended their marriage by death.”
I guess I know what you mean, but that doesn’t sound good:)
The libs like their 14 year olds olds who sleep with older guys and bang out babies to be on welfare living in the poverty-stricken ghettos so they can be married to the government, and keep electing their liberal politicians. They don’t want them to actually get married to the guys they are sleeping with and have a family.
Moronic liberals push transgender and homosexuality on 3rd graders and abortion and birth control on 12 year olds in public schools. Yet they find it impossible to believe a 14 year old married a 30 year old decades ago? That’s crazy to them? Wow.
Their morality is very strange.
Thanks for posting that, I was just thinking about old Jerry Lee whilst reading this thread.
Why can people on our side not think on their feet. Simply tell Mathews to look up the ages of Loretta and “Mooney” Lynn.
I didn’t say murder death by old age disease.
“Why can people on our side not think on their feet.”
Matthews was interviewing a Boston Globe reporters. She is presumably not on our side.
But I do give her credit for standing up to Matthews. When he said that the 16-yr. old’s husband was 17, the Globe reporter replied, “no, no, he was in his 30s.”
My maternal grandmother was born in Indian Territory, and she married at 16 (if it wasnt 14, but dont think so). Her groom was a widower who had one surviving son, but had lost his wife and two other children to sickness.I read somewhere that the term fighting Irish derives from the fact that Irishmen didnt marry until they inherited their fathers farms . . . and consequently behaved like adolescents well into their 20s. And when they did marry, they normally married much younger wives.
Wonder if Chris Matthews has some Irish blood in him???
That marriage almost destroyed Jerry Lee’s career. His defense was that she wasn’t his first cousin. She was his second cousin and was almost 14.
Chrissy had better not interview his good friend Keith Olbermann.
Such things do happen. My grand-uncle, born in 1893, was twenty years old when his future wife was born.
Not long ago, there was a car wreck near here in which the Mexican husband was killed. He was thirteen years old. No mention on how old the wife was.
I guess he never heard of Jerry Lee Lewis....Great Balls if Fire
Still is in some very orthodox communities
Funny. Sort of. I watched the 1968 Bing Crosby Christmas Special last night, Kathy and the three children (two boys and a girl, Mary) were on the show. So was Glen Campbell who was going to have his own show starting in Jan. 1969. Talk about time capsule. Looked Kathy up as she looked young enough to be Bing’s daughter, which of course she was.
ANYWAY, looked up Bing’s first family and discovered that Bing’s granddaughter played Tasha Yar of Star Trek: Next Generation.
He didnt laugh when a thirty yr old Prince Charles dated a teen aged Diana
And yes, I am old enough to remember when this happened and the fallout from it.
There's even a pretty good movie about Jerry Lee, called "GREAT BALLS OF FIRE" ( after one of the songs he was famous for ), that includes the marriage and the mess he found himself in, when he went to the UK, on tour, after the wedding.
