The so-called Thomas Fire is only 15 percent contained, now threatening the city of Santa Barbara and the nearby coastal town of Carpinteria, and is on track to become one of the worst wildfires in California history.

It has already destroyed 583 structures and scorched 173,000 acres, the authorities say. New evacuations were ordered in Carpinteria, which been under fire threat for days.

The new evacuation zone extends within two miles of the Santa Barbara Zoo.

CA was the best thing going until about the late 70s or 80s...

Governor Moonbeam ruined it starting in 1974.

It’s gone straight down hill since.

And despite surviving the first bout of Moonbeam flu, the fine citizens of California resurrected the political corpse of Jerry Brown and elected him to the governorship.

Very unfortunate.

*sigh* Yeah. REPEATEDLY play stupid games, win progressively bigger stupid prizes

Nearly everything growing in S. CA was planted by people and if the water is turned off, most if it dies off very quickly.

I have a question from behind the blue wall that encircles the beautiful Northwest. Our dams provide much of the hydroelectric, and maybe the water, too, to California.

If there were an EMP pulse which shut down the electrical grid, would the dams still produce electricity or is electricity required to run the dams.

Off topic, I know.

Spanish uses feminine or masculine words and “swamp” can be translated as cienaga in the feminine sense or pantano in the masculine. A third word, marisma, can be used if the swamp is near the sea.

The dams would be just fine. The engineers may have to scramble pretty hard to manually release excess water, but they could.

It could take years to re-wire the generators if the windings are fried, but I’m guessing they’ll be OK. The controllers may be another issue.

AFAIK, the only place mass producing them is China, to Chinese quality standards, for their own internal use.

Ummm, how do you tell if it’s a girl swamp or a boy swamp? What if self-identifies as a gay swamp?

*sigh* Yeah.

Although I do wonder if an honest 'one qualified voter, one vote' election would have had the same outcome.

Some years ago I was think of heading to your state and went and looked several times. But being from a desert style climate of S. CA, I just didn’t like the clouds, rain snow etc. Very beautiful landscape however.

How do you know it wasn’t?

Was it a case of the spread being so wide, massive fraud simply couldn’t bridge the gap?

If the State of Jefferson ever happens, I’ll go there as long as I don’t see the punitive criminal taxes ya see in CA.
