Devastating wildfires fueled by climate change are “the new normal”, California’s governor has said.
Jerry Brown said vast fires, such as the ones that have ravaged southern California in recent days, “could happen every year or every few years”.
“We’re facing a new reality in this state,” he said. Mr Brown made the comments after surveying the damage in Ventura County, north of Los Angeles.
Thousands of firefighters have been battling the fires since Monday.
Mr. Brown, a Democrat who has attacked the Trump administration’s stance on climate change, said: “We’re facing a new reality in this state, where fires threaten people’s lives, their properties, their neighborhoods, and of course billions and billions of dollars. With climate change, some scientists are saying southern California is literally burning up.” …

Remember the public service announcements from Smokey the Bear sixty years ago saying each year enough wildfires are started in the USA to cover Louisiana?

Did you know Jerry Browns wife is 20 years younger than he is. that’ means when she was 12 he was 32 — though they got married in 2005.

Hearing a lot about the wildfires. Nothing about how they started.
You know how a hurricane starts. You see it forming and coming. Wildfires, whether natural or man-made, just happen.
Personally, I’d bet some of this year’s bumper crop were intentionally man-made.

Could he be an arsonist or hire arsonists, I guess that COULD be true to cement his agenda. Based on that theory I just made up, he should step down immediately.

Some of the really big ones this year have been man caused but not intentional.
The huge fires up north near Santa Rosa were started by sparking PGE power lines during very strong dry winds, whatever they call their Santa Anas up there.
The Canyon Fire in OC was caused by a CalTrans road flare on the 91 freeway. And a week or two later it flared up again as the Canyon 2 Fire during another Santa Ana- tree roots can harbor embers for a long time and you can’t see them.
What about those Be-200 Russian firefighting airplanes>? They look like they might be a help. Russia offered them to us. Has Brown OKed them? There was some talk of getting some into Santa Maria? Anyone know about this???
So it was climate change then? Good, I am glad it wasn’t something like bad forestry practices. With climate change, it is completely out of government’s hands to do anything, except punish the citizens for climate change. I’m so happy the state government can’t be held responsible.
Actually, 70 years of Smokey the Bear is what has made this the new normal.
Periodic small wildfires are normal, natural, and part of the cycle of nature. They are beneficial in that they remove fuel loading before it reaches a level where a fire causes a disaster. A burn every 5 years is a much healthier way to manage woodlands than fire prevention.
