Jane Taylor* has a lot of things to worry about when her husband is deployed. Will he come home alive? Will her kids see their dad again? But until last month, Will he slip up and sleep with a taxpayer-funded sex worker? wasnt one of them.
Like many military wives, Brisbane, Australia, resident Jane was horrified to read Australian army Capt. Sally Williamson recommending prostitutes be sent to the front line to help relieve stress in serving troops.

This is somewhat dated. Syphilis and gonorrhea are kid’s stuff.
In my time chancroids were the devil to cure.
Apparently.
So I was told.
I hate to break it to the wives, but if their husbands want it they are going to find it. Perhaps a regulated and tested playmate might be safer than the locals??
Not saying it’s morally right, but there is no way you are going to convince me, especially in an active combat situation where they know they could indeed die at any time men (and women for that matter) are not going to find comfort where they can.
My experience was it was entirely dependent on the individual and their assignment. The older the troop the less inclined, the ones who were married never strayed, if you were in a line outfit the chances of getting any were diminished to the point they were non-existent anyway.
If you were a rear troop you had more opportunity and energy to be cavorting around. The grunts were pretty exhausted most of the time.
It, though, came down to personal values and what set one was raised with.
Obviously these are generalizations based on my own limited experience.
Sounds like the Aussies elect the same kind of reprobates as we do.
I think better of man and giving the government power to become pimps is a degenerate proposition. Don't forget the divorce bill this will cause the tax payer too based off a pissed off wife and confused children.
If deployed weak willed men want their genitals wet, let them do it on their own time and with their pay. Sanctioned tax payer prostitution is not a solution. To begin with, the Feds will have to get the States to legalize prostitution, least be labeled hypocrites. This is a road that should not be taken.
Look at the arms on that dude.
“What about the female soldiers needs? Will studs be sent to them?”
From the article: “...Williamson suggested the army contract Australian male and female sex workers to service troops in forward operating bases and air bases.
Capt Williamson was covering all bases.
Of course, she didn’t specifically mention “transgender” sex workers, which might appeal to those military members with....how shall I say it...a more “refined” taste.
Proud to admit that when I was married during my first six month deployment, I stayed true to my Wife.
Too bad she was four months pregnant when I returned.
Was single during the second deployment -still didn’t touch a thing.
The, “Cherry Jubilee,” videos in boot camp were.....inspiring.
And, yes. The rumors are true.
The Australian ladies stood on the pier holding signs with their phone numbers on ‘em.
(And I STILL remained faithful)
When I did my two R&R’s to Sydney I was single and therefore unfettered.
That started a lifelong love affair for Oz and the Aussies.
Had the good fortune to have had business there ever since I got out and can count some of them as among my best friends in life.
We’re planning on going there next year.
Battery-operated "studs", maybe.
What has been seen cannot be unseen.
(Running to get some brain bleach.)
I am fully convinced that the earth has passed through some type of space stupid cloud...........
Just my two cents because I have never served in the military (especially overseas). I would imagine military marriages are difficult enough. You have a wife/husband gone for an extended time and the remaining spouse then has two “jobs”... everything falls into their lap. Plus, you must miss them like crazy. To add a “bonus” of sleeping with a hooker.. you have simply now added infidelity to the mix (like it isn’t difficult enough?) Plus, let’s say the man (or woman) doesn’t cheat... imagine the questions during their time away and when they get home? I guess I find the articles use of the term “relieved” humorous. Relieved to me means you take a pill to get rid of a headache or back pain... to them it means what? If you don’t have sex.. you are in agony or you blow up? This is just insane because any “traditional” or more “traditional leaning” man or woman will certainly not date a military person if this is potentially or part of “their duties or work environment”.
Oh, I LOVED Australia. We stopped in Perth/Freemantle on the way back from Somalia in ‘94.
Five days of awesomeness.
> if this is potentially or part of their duties or work environment.<
It’s not.
My experience is dated (50 years old, now) but those with moral convictions didn’t shed them because they were at war.
I had a lot of fun posting this because of the back-and-forth amusement it has provided. I don’t think this is really an issue and I doubt the Aussies are seriously considering doing it.
And, I’ll bet today, the troops are far more straight-laced than they were in my day.
I got hit a week before I was due to take R&R in Aussie land and sent home. Was really bummed, had been assigned to guard an Aussie hospital in Bien Hoa during Tet and got the Aussie bug. Their nurses were fabulous.
I was deployed to Uzbekistan; the young women dressed Western style and many of them were hotties. Central Asians are very different from Arabs.
