Yeah, been there saw that- most wars and rumors of wars would have been avoided if the rest of the world was properly privately armed to prevent the loss of their natural rights. So we agree there.
On the other hand, our rights are not dissolved, but threatened of course, as they have been since the day after the constitution was ratified in 1791.
Just as I stored reasonable amounts of food ( probably in violation of some fedlaw), I believe other necessities ought to be preserved for when the need actually arises. Sure, I rotate my food stocks, but these items won’t spoil over time and are useful regardless of the social conditions or situation.
As I read the DOI, I see that the requirements for the triggering of the right to change form of government is described as only when a long train of abuses and usurpations lead to tyranny- we have issues, always have and always will as long as there are more than one person involved, but until our right to representative government, no matter how bad it is in effect is undone, the right to change our form of government is not properly arrived at. See how the founders petitioned and politely asked for redress and Geo. III simply dissolved all forms of local determination-and declared them outside of his protection, suspending government of the colonies and replacing it with his minions. The courts became staffed by his cronies and due process ceased. All of these actions eventually resulted in the creation of conditions that met the requirement of the colonies to throw off such tyranny and create a government suitable to themselves.
Not there.
Keep your blade sheathed my friend. Change the conditions by voting and being active in the political process, no matter how distasteful. Hold your representatives at every level accountable to the people by being vocal and persistent. Your elected representatives ought to have your phone number on speed dial...
We as citizens, both by implicit and explicit consent, have a government, it is ours to keep as Dr. Franklin stated on that day....
” I see that the requirements for the triggering of the right to change form of government is described as only when a long train of abuses and usurpations lead to tyranny”
Not exactly. It says, “But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism...”
We don’t have to wait for it to happen; we can go as soon as it is clear that they are out to reduce us under despotism.
IOW, at any time since 1992.
