Yesterday morning, I had the honor of attending oral argument before the United States Supreme Court. The case being argued was Masterpiece Cakeshop v. Colorado Civil Rights Commission, commonly referred to as the "gay wedding cake case."
The case involves a humble Christian baker, Jack Phillips, in the sleepy town of Lakewood, Colorado, who received a phone call one day to create a custom wedding cake for two men attempting to marry each other. Phillips responded by inviting the couple to purchase any goods in his bakery while declining to create a custom cake for the celebration because his Christian values forbid him to promote an understanding of marriage that includes same-sex couples. Five years, a plethora of fines and penalties from the State of Colorado, and several boycotts of his bakery later, the state is still forcing Phillips to make custom cakes for these same-sex celebrations, and Phillips finds himself fighting in the nation's highest court for his First Amendment freedoms of speech and religious exercise. The couple who called Phillips ended up receiving their cake for free from a different baker. The cake was a replica of the rainbow flag to celebrate the gay rights movement.

...Then Justices Kagan and Sotomayor administered a pop quiz, naming foods, art, buildings, and creative enterprises and demanding to know if the objects or general categories of study they posed are expression and, therefore, protected speech under the First Amendment. At one point, Justice Thomas covered his face with his full palm at the incomplete responses and failures to get to the relevant.

The kids turn 18 next year, at which point any adoption irregularities become moot.
Because they are all politically motivated cowards.
Praying for a few liberals to retire... spend some time with their families...
Cakes cannot be homosexual. Being gay is not a requirement to participate in a same sex wedding.
When you marry, it severs all previous ties if you live in a community property state. I know a guy who almost married his hunting buddy because he thought he was going to die and didn’t want his ex-wife to lay a claim on the hunting land (it had been in her family but he got it in the divorce). Luckily, he recovered.
I seriously doubt that they postponed their mutual buggery until after the ceremony.
Thanks for this info. I've been wondering how long they could use those kids against Roberts, while reading through this thread.
Well if you are introducing the concept that some same sex marriages are going to occur among straights and not homosexuals, then that throws a monkey wrench into this whole discussion..............
I can see it now, two guys agree to get “married” to each other, while having girlfriends in order to get the tax benefits.
Should a fashion designer be forced by law to make a dress for Mrs. Trump?
This. Exactly. If you actually take the time to read through the transcript of the oral arguments in the case, you will see that they spent a lot of time trying to get around the huge mess they'd made of our rights with the pernicious concept of "public accomodations". If they really want to bring some sanity back to the law, they'd drop that entire line of reasoning.
Any business out there should be able to say, "I will not sell to people with green eyes", or any other thing they want. The public can take care of those businesses quite well I suspect. I certainly wouldn't patronize a place that wouldn't sell to blacks. I suspect a lot of other folks would feel the same way.
They definitely will. Marriage is the best way to transfer assets. Imagine if you could marry your only child before your death. No inheritance taxes.
Nobody has a privileged right to force someone else to speak on behalf of them.
You can’t even force your Congressmen and Senators to speak on behalf of you. And they are elected and paid to represent you.
they only have bean pie
I agree with him, though I feel that there is a public benefit these days, now that it is pretty easy to actually read through the oral arguments. I think it's a good idea to have at least some idea of their reasoning processes made available, rather than the decision being largely an opaque box. An informed citizenry is a Good Thing&mark;.
Also, I really would be interested in hearing what he might have wanted to ask.
Oh in some way I hope the supreme court rules this case wholly wrong, and what do I mean by WRONG?
Well if they go against the Cake shop this means many great things for us! Well not for society at large because any shop owner will be forced to do things they don’t want to do and liberty will be curtailed. But good for us because we can stick this decision to liberals and FORCE THEM the make things they would never want to.
Okay so here is some examples!
Bake a birthday cake that looks like a MAGA HAT from an insanely liberal baker.
Force any liberal artist who does commissions to make pro-trump art work.
Hire an landscaping company who hires illegals to trim a hedge into a wall with the words “build the wall” into the side of it.
Plus in any state that has one party consent recording laws you go in ahead of time with someone else and get video of the artist hating on Trump, then later you request the artwork and also get them whining, then later when and always they deliver an “inferior product” based on YOUR standards, you can say they are trying to shirk the supreme court decision. And they will never be able to get the product JUST RIGHT enough for you!
Plenty of mischief to be had if the Supreme court rules that you can force a christian baker to “BAKE THE F###ING! CAKE”
Sorry, Charlie. Court packing means creating new positions to fill, not refilling vacant ones.
Right there in the argument. Compel someone to participate in that which they hold to be the antithesis of their beliefs. In other words the government holds a gun to the head of a citizen and makes them do and say what the government tells them to do and say.
When the radical Muslims capture a group of infidels and approach them one at a time and have them recite the Koran from memory or they are executed instantly, that’s what this is.
Now, that’s food for thought... tell the baker/florist/photog that you’re friends with privileges, but certainly not gay.
[ Why dont gays ever go to Muslim bakeries
Perhaps the baker should rename his bakery, Halal Bakery Shoppe. ]
Funny how muslims can express and retain what the left consider “bigoted values” but dare a single christian to be true to some of the MILDER forms of the same beliefs and KATIE BAR THE ###### DOOR!
“Mohammed’s Muffin Shop”
