The top two Democrats in Congress canceled a meeting with President Trump slated for later Tuesday, saying they didnt see him as a viable partner in trying to strike an end-of-year spending deal.
The stunning move attempts to further sideline Mr. Trump and portray him as at odds with his partys own leadership in Congress.
Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi announced their decision to skip the meeting hours after Mr. Trump said he doubted they could reach a deal on an end-of-year spending bill.

I hope there is a shutdown because the President will be able to shut down half the bloated government - as long as he keeps the entitlements (SSI and military retirement) coming. The welfare and congressional pay he should stop. That should get rat cooperation.
I think the President’s tweet that he put out this morning before their scheduled meeting, and which highlighted their stark differences, was aimed directly at them.
He was letting Schumer & Pelosi know in advance that he would not be changing his mind on these issues, they knew it, and canceled the meeting to try and force a political showdown...
“Meeting with Chuck and Nancy today about keeping government open and working. Problem is they want illegal immigrants flooding into our Country unchecked, are weak on Crime and want to substantially RAISE Taxes. I dont see a deal!”
They are too busy figuring out how to hide their sexual abuse settlements from the public.
All I see are people that do not care about this country, they are too busy trying to tear it down for their own selfish ends for more power.
I hope Trump gets the opportunity to shut down the Federal Government.
Trump can shut down the departments and agencies that do nothing. Such as Dept of Education, EPA, or Dept of Energy to name a few.
Prior govt shutdowns have been controlled by Democrat Presidents. I want to see how a ‘drain the swamp’ President handles a shutdown.
President Trump wins by default with any shutdown. Just the way it is. In this case, DACA is at stake, yes? Unfunded, undone...buhbye - thank you demonrats!
Actually Trump put the ball in UpChuck and Pelosi’s court. He has let the world know THEY want a government shutdown, not him and THEY pulled out of the meeting to keep the government funded. Prepping the battlefield.
They may be able to block something in the Senate, but that should be easy to get around.
The Art of the Deal.
He set the tone before they showed up, knowing if he had met with them they would leave and go to the nearest microphone making some outrage claim about him.
He set up a no lose situation, which is to say he won given the terms.
AND, just imagine him having to call out the National Guard to control the rioters after he decertifies the government unions, and fires that 80%.
Popcorn?
Scared to meet with the Boss? Go look for work else where then:-)
“Good payback for all the government rats in Virginia who turned the state into California east.”
We lived in Fairfax County from 1964-1970, and it was amazing how the rats as you pointed out, took over Virginia in the DC area.
“The parts of the Federal gov’t that are “essential” under Trump aren’t the parts that were “essential” under Obama!”
That will become very evident and painful to the non essential rats in government in the DC area.
Actually Trump put the ball in UpChuck and Pelosis court. He has let the world know THEY want a government shutdown, not him and THEY pulled out of the meeting to keep the government funded. Prepping the minefields in front of the real battlefields.
The Legacy Media on the radio anyways is making it sound like Trump pulled out of the meeting, not these two nitwits.
I agree. Trump should decide what is non-essential and just permanently forget to fund it. NPR/PBS is just one of many non-essential swamps.
