November 27, the Denver Post set into motion its latest round of layoffs just over a year after shrinking the newsroom staff by 26 employees through the combination of a buyout offer and supplementary dismissals. Seven positions included in the Post's contract with the Denver Newspaper Guild are affected, and another four employees working non-union gigs also appear to have been discharged.
"The Post gave the required two-week notice of layoff in seven union covered positions," notes the DNG's Tony Mulligan, corresponding via email. "Four are in the newsroom and three are in advertising support."
...
As for why the layoffs are happening, the struggles of the print journalism industry have been well documented, and the impact goes well beyond the Post, whose newsroom staff is now less than a third the size it was at its peak. The development is distressing for members of the journalism industry as a whole, but they should also concern news consumers who need clear-eyed, concise, fearless truth-telling now more than ever.

Wow, and the idiot Koch brothers agreed to finance a two billion dollar takeover of the imploding Time publishing company.
Do people read newspapers anymore?
Sunday there was a guy giving away copies of the Denver Post in front of the King Sooper, grocery store in Parker. Along with the free paper he was trying to get you to sign up for a subscription to the daily paper. When the offer was declined he came up with an alternative offer for fewer days, one daily paper and the Sunday paper. Declined the offer and went away with our free Sunday paper. As my daughter said, “I just want it for the adds. I get all my news online.” In my case on FR.

It’s an easy call—Denver Post circling the toilet bowl!
I am sure they are completely Liberal-good riddance.
“Be nice if some rich conservatives could start buying up these dieing left wing fishwraps.”
print publishing can not be saved: it’s a waste of money to invest in them.
“They seem to keep on a few far-left editorial writers who follow a very small amount of local issues, a skeleton sports staff for local sports, and then fill their daily paper with flimsy AP and Reuters feeds.”
that’s now the formula for ALL local fish wraps ...
ROFLMBO BWAHAHAHAHAH!!!
“news consumers who need clear-eyed, concise, fearless truth-telling now more than ever.”
Howls, Bruce. Howls of derisive laughter.
All they ever had to do to save themselves was just stop lying.
That’s all. Stop lying.
They couldn’t do it, and now they are dying.
Good.
“Sunday there was a guy giving away copies of the Denver Post in front of the King Sooper, grocery store in Parker.”
ditto in Longmont KS. giving away Post & Longmont Times-Call & Boulder Camera - all pretty much the same uber-leftist paper anyway. dude said special deal on the T-C, 118/year, which as far as i can tell is the regular price. he asked if i had every subscribed, and i said, yeah, a few decades ago.
i wanted one for the free newsprint - for packing and changing oil. plus i like to analyze local content & local ads - basically almost none now. not even the pot stores advertise much in the T-C anymore - i guess they finally figured out it’s a waste of money to advertise pot to the 70-80 year old readership who still subscribe out of habit.
Liberals just never seem to learn any lessons.
It is one of their defining characteristics.
They have an inability to understand the reality of any situation.
They confuse their feelings about what they’ve done instead of any actual results.
Saying they want to help people and doing ‘something’ is more important than actually helping.
They never learn from their mistakes.
Like a frightened turtle.
I don’t like the word “shrinkage”, no matter what they are talking about.
I miss the Rocky Mtn News...
I just tell them I’m not interested in leftwing propaganda. I take the free paper for my woodstove.
One of the greatest lines ever.
You mean the anti-falalas aren’t buying the rag?
