Speaking on ABC's "This Week," Cokie Roberts made a startling admission: "every female in the press corps knew" to avoid being in an elevator with Rep. John Conyers (D-MI), and has apparently known about this "for years." Conyers has been accused of multiple instances of sexual harassment and has stepped down from the House Judiciary Committee.
Despite the allegations against him, major players in the Democratic Party have defended Conyers and will not say that he should resign. Pelosi even referred to the embattled congressman as an "icon."
Roberts was discussing the current culture on Capitol Hill with Martha Raddatz and Anna Palmer. Roberts said that while this has been the status quo for decades, she believes that things could change now that people are coming public with their experiences.
"The fact that people are willing to be public can change things. I mean, we all talked about for years," said Roberts.
Further, Roberts says that it "does make a difference" now that women are not being shy about this kind of misconduct. Roberts implied that Conyers' predatory behavior was an open secret among the press corps.
"Dont get in the elevator with him, you know, and the whole every female in the press corps knew that, right, dont get in elevator with him," said Roberts. She continued, "Now people are saying it out loud. And I think that does make a difference."
It's disturbing that this kind of behavior could continue on for so long without anyone doing anything to stop it. Riding an elevator with a member of the opposite sex, especially a member of the opposite sex who is a member of Congress, should always be a safe endeavor. While I'm glad that something is finally being done, this should never be tolerated for this long ever again.
So, for decades, YOU (Cokie Roberts - and how many dozen other female “stars” who have lied, licked, sucked, and kissed their way up the Washington poles? - have ignored this on behalf of democrats who YOU supported ...
Who gave YOU the latest presstitute marching orders that it is now “OK” to dump Conyers (and Bill Clinton)? Has the democrat now party decided that Conyers is now “too old” and is in a “safe district”, so we can throw him off the sleigh to the wolves, and thereby keep attacking Judge Moore?
Oh. y the way, Cokie. You forgot to include a reference to “tribalism” in today’s interview. (Or was “tribalism” only a Mitch McConnell repubbie-written GROPe catch phrase?
“And for decades you all knew to keep is hush hush right, Cokie?”
I guess Conyers was trying to “give Cokie a pokie!”
The soft bigotry of low expectations on display with Cokie Roberts. Black politicians and affaleetes are expected to think with their dicks - unless they become Conservatives and therefore deserving of a higher moral standard.
Cokie is a sexual abuse enabler and, therefore, a hypocrite! Shame!!!
How long have cell phones had video cameras? Video the creep right before you knee the old codger in his low hanging nuts. Should be easy to hit.
Shameful.
Hey. When you are 88, are 77 y/o is a hot chick.
“is able to continue to abuse women, and is able to be right on the issues for years to come.”
Tough choice. The “players” must realize that the public (including me) loves a scandal and is almost instinctively driven to condemn a person whose immorality becomes public knowledge.
IOW, Cokie let it slide for how many years letting him accost women not aware of dangers. She aided and abetted.
So, Cokie, why did you not say anything? Afraid of taking down one of your liberal friends in the House?
Notice how he doesn’t quit congress. His protective pigmentation prevents that.
So, Cokie, why did you not say anything? Afraid of taking down one of your liberal friends in the House?
DUUUUUUDE.........
Sheesh..she has got to be the ugliest women in congress..right up there with former member waxman
And how many sanctimonious rants have Cokie and others who knew of this given about sexual misconduct by men in general, over the many years? No one comes off looking good here as it seems everyone inside the Beltway was covering for misbehaving members of Congress while taxpayer money was used to hush some of the victims.
I don’t think Cokie is in much danger of being molested even by a John Conyers.
