BALIs highest volcano Mount Agung is sending a dark ash cloud into the sky as it erupts for the second time in less than a week. Here are live updates and the latest news. ... Sutopo Purwo Nugroho a spokesman for Balis Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), has said that some Bali residents living within Mount Agungs danger zone are refusing to evacuate the area.
He said: Some people within a radius of 8-10km from the summit crater of Mount Agung have not been displaced.
They feel safe because the area was not damaged during the 1963 eruption. They will evacuate if it is dangerous.

I am still gathering information. The airport on Bali is closed. At the moment, we have no problems here in Papua from this. However, we are east of Bali and so may be affected.
The earth passes a little gas from time to time -
I think this is the preliminary to the big eruption, the authorities are warning the big one is expected within 24 hours.
Judging by wind patterns Papua should be well out of it although air travel will be disrupted elsewhere. Seems like Lombok will be worst effected.
OMG Bali just lost all their Carbon Credits!
That is what I am thinking, too. I haven’t even dusted of my bug-out bag. Actually, I think it is kind of thrilling, tempered with concern for those who have suffered loss by it.
I viewed it’s neighbor, Gunung BATUR , some years ago. THERE ARE PEOPLE LIVING IN THE CALERA! I am concerned for them as well.
Its 43’s fault.
The worst global warming event, evah!!!
Hey, maybe we could suggest a new money making scheme for the UN, where they pedal Anthropogenic Catastrophic Volcanism, AND get the nations and populations of the world to believe we can stop it by global taxation and investment in TECTONIC ANTACID!
It’s just as scientific (and maybe more so) than AGW!
What are those things streaking across the sky in the live feed? Look like meteors.
Probably pyroclastic ejecta, AKA “big flaming loonies” from the volcano.

One of my favorite lines ever from a song,
“Happy campers... poop in their Pampers”

Ahem, “loogies”
Damn autocorrect.

But they’re going in all directions. Weird.
Those are “bombs”, aka rocks, etc., from the volcano. All natural.
Yes, it’s crazy you see the blackened hillsides and yet people are living there. But hey, that’s Indonesia, disasters are just part of the daily life.
True Dat. I live here.
Actually, the Balinese just learned of Auburn’s victory in the Iron Bowl. Since they don’t have toilet paper, ever been to an Indonesian bathroom?, the volcano is celebrating in style.
My geography is so bad - I had to find a map. Hope this works!!
I suggest they throw in a virgin or two and see if that helps.
I have used more Indonesian bathrooms than I care to remember.
Even using one fits that requirement!
