If they really work at it as a profession who cares. It could easily turn into a full time job if you are raising troubled teenagers.
Some do just that.
Just as long as they take their responsibility seriously.
Going back five years now, I knew of a lady whose blood children were leaving the nest one by one. She decided to go into foster caring in the local Florida area. She jumped through all the hoops, classes, bkg checks, etc. Did everything she could to start but the county here in Florida never sent her anyone. In desperation she had to find alternate work and took a job 20 miles away. Her last daughter at home had some issues. She got her license and one night went to get her mother with the car where her mother worked. In the end her mother got another ride home. Daughter while turning around on a dangerous highway got sideswiped and airlifted to Tampa General. Never to live a normal life again. Paralyzed, unable to speak, etc. Needless to say that family has never been the same. Husband lost work. Moved around the country for medical help for girl. Divorced now. They were such a blessed family, not hanging on by a thread.
Still to this day I blame the dcf agency for misleading that mom into pursuing foster care.
I grew up in foster homes, and when I asked one foster mother why she cant adopt me so I can have her name I was told because she gets money for me.
16 I was out of there m screw them all.
An 18 year old can get a job and pay the foster parents what the state would pay...
Sounds a bit cold hearted, but food, essentials like shelter etc is costly especially if the state cuts off funding...
I know my own flesh and blood were required to pay rent (a small amount) after they turned 18....
I didn’t need the money, but they needed to learn about life...
In many states the money for the foster home comes from ‘child support’ taken from the father or parents income, if any.
I never saw any money for clothes etc. I did see her getting her hair done which was expensive, going out and having vacations.
I would have fights with a foster dad at aged 14
There wouldn’t be any foster care if they didn’t pay them for it. Personally, I think orphanages run by religious institutions worked better.
A dear friend of mine adopted two little half-sisters just last Friday. Daycare assistance ended immediately upon adoption (well, at the end of this month, I think), but there will be college tuition assistance (state school) since she adopted more than one child.
Incidentally, this friend’s cousin came here for the adoption ceremony. The cousin and her husband were adopting four siblings of their own this past Monday. Their adoptees are ages 2, 9, 16 and 17. It made my heart feel good knowing that they were giving the teenagers forever families, despite their ages. That can’t be very common, I’m guessing.
Exactly. Get a job, be an adult.
There was a family a couple houses down in my neighborhood that took in foster girls.
For a teenage boy/man such as myself, it was a smorgasbord of mostly teenage sluts that were changed regularly. Few of them lasted more than 6 months, but was more than enough time to get ‘acquainted’ with most of them.
well your foster mom was a bit8h. there is an adoption subsidy and there is also a way to get the kids’ college paid for. There is a tax credit for legal costs of adoption.
How sad.
Well that is a crappy way to treat one’s own children, by knowingly turning them into debt slaves.
The loving thing is pay 20% or 30% down on another house and at 18 let them work to pay it off. And keep you the parents far away from the money, because you would deceive your children, and become rent seekers and debt slaves to your own children.
With parents like you, who needs enemies. Time will tell how they treat you in your elder age.
“There wouldnt be any foster care if they didnt pay them for it. “
That’s not true. We went into training not knowing that we would be paid if a child was placed in our home. It was a surprise to find that out.
We wanted to foster to adopt, but unfortunately our state believes that children should be returned to their bio-parents pretty much in every circumstance. The children suffer the most.
Probably most of those teenage “sluts” were sexually abused and that’s why they were in foster care.
