When the thing your company is named for is no longer selling all that well, that's a big problem. Just ask Campbell Soup, which reported lousy earnings Tuesday because of weak soup sales. Shares of Campbell Soup (CPB) plunged more than 7% after the food giant said that soup sales in the U.S. fell 9% from a year ago. The company also lowered its earnings outlook for fiscal 2018.

“I haven’t bought Campbell’s since the two daddies commercial”.
Me, either.
Progresso soup is pretty good.
Their legacy soups are just not attractive in today’s healthy eating approach. Some of the brand extensions are probably okay but they actually blamed the margin compression on the rising price of carrots!
Progresso is better soup, but I think that the reason you cited is the reason for Campbell’s drop in sales.
I didn’t know about the two daddy’s, but 1.59 is too much for a can of soup..
If I want soup it’s always Great Value soup ,once a month maybe
Highly salted colored water with minimal solids is not what I think of as soup. “Cream of XXX” I use as a base for other cooking though. I just cut down on the salt in any recipes I use the canned soup in.
Campbell’s is an expensive, lesser quality soup. Those who don’t care about quality and focus on cost will buy cheaper soups. Those who focus on quality and don’t care about cost will buy higher quality soups. That leaves Campbell’s out in the cold.
Not only that...the damn can keeps shrinking!!!

Good point. I would love to see a soup with no added salt. Just put “season to taste” on the label.
Me neither, that turned my stomach.
Look at the salt content of canned soup and you’ll .....let’s just say “react”. I used to like Progresso and probably still would, but the salt content is astronomical.
Any health conscious person who reads the sodium content on the label, and understands what it means, won’t eat the stuff. Why in world would CNN try to blame the drop in Campbell’s soup sales on the price of carrots?...Fake News.
Store Band for me!
Saving money and telling the new agenda to go to hell!

That’s probably another unfortunate result of Global Warming. Oh, wait a minute. When things are warmed, they expand. So it’s probably another unfortunate result of Global Cooling.
Al Gore, please look into this whole soup can thing.
Campbell’s cream of mushroom soup is the best starter for the all-time favorites of - hamburger Stroganoff, the holiday green bean casserole with toasted onions on top and other tasty & filling dishes.
I was raised on their tomato soup made with milk instead of water, true comfort food.
And it’s pretty easy to make your own healthy soups. Pick the veggies you want, use some water, maybe a fish and herbs and let is simmer for a few hours and you have something a heck of a lot better for you.
