In the 1870s and 80s a trail drive’s drovers were likely better armed than a platoon of US Cavalry. In 1910 while the Army issued ‘03s, a civilian could own a Remington Model 8 semi auto rifle. ( see Warren Oates’ weapon in Ride the High Country, or Pierce Brosnan’s in AMC’s The Son.)

Smart guns, stupid guns, you say tomato, I say tomahto. What has it got to do with stopping a crazy person or muslim fanatic from committing a shooting rampage?

Or for that matter having been denied a gun as a weapon, using the largest truck they can find or making bombs? If someone is intent on murder and mayhem they will always find the means to commit it.

Even if the 2nd has limits the 10th does NOT.

No delegated power mean no power.
>

But, that’s why the Commerce Clause trumps all, no? Or is is promoting the General Welfare that allows?? So hard to keep up on Leftist ‘logic’ and their re-definition of words/meaning.

All my guns are smart guns - at least as smart as I am anyway (I know - it’s up for debate...;-)) because they are an extension of me when I wield them.

By his logic then Government should be small and limited, rather than the Big mess it has become. Interesting that we now have a Democrat who says there are limitations on Government. Someone should ask him this question, I would love to hear his answer.

“Doug Jones, the Democrat running for Alabama’s U.S. Senate seat, says he loves to hunt but the Second Amendment has “limitations.””

WTF does hunting have to do with the Second amendment?

Judge Moore will win Alabama.

Don’t we already have “smart” speech laws or at least they are proposed. Hate speech. Most Americans now against “hate speech”.

Then how do you reconcile the 1934 National Firearm Act with the SCOTUS Miller decision?
>

Better question: How does one reconcile the 1934 NFA vs. the 2nd A.’s plain English.

One needs an agenda to decree *anything* allows govt control\license to trump “...shall NOT be infringed.”. Let alone the (Anti)Federalist papers and any other number of writings of the day.

Course, the Constitution hasn’t been consulted in over a century now anyway...

He has it wrong of course. The Bill of Rights clarifies restrictions on government powers.

Ammo is already under assault in many states via sales taxes, permits to purchase, and limits on the number of ammo your magazine can hold. What morons running this country!!!!!!!!

Add to that the Congressional power to “grant Letters of Marque and Reprisal, and make Rules concerning Captures on Land and Water;”: essentially government permission to make war on foreign countries and take their stuff. You aren’t going to do that with a single shot musket, so the founders must have expected individuals to own cannons - the 18th century’s weapon of mass destruction. I want my own WMD.

Thanks Cheerio.
He stressed that he loves to hunt but still believes in “smart” gun laws.
Too bad that hunting isn't the reason for the 2nd Amendment. What an ***hole.

The fact that government would even consider repealing the 2nd Amendment is the very reason for which it was written.

Hmmm... Running for the Senate in ALABAMA so he shoots himself in the foot - figuratively speaking, of course.

We already have those. They’re called “Hate Speech”, the interpretation of which is subject to interpretation.
