Sen. Amy Klobuchar will help champion a sexual assault bill that was originally introduced by Sen. Al Franken. The change comes after a Los Angeles radio anchor said Franken forcibly kissed her during a 2006 USO tour.
Leeann Tweeden also said Franken posed for a photo with his hand on her breasts as she slept.
Abby Honold, a sexual assault survivor and advocate, announced Saturday that Klobuchar's office would help champion the bill.
"Happy to announce that my legislation for sexual assault victims will be championed by @amyklobuchar's office," Honold's tweet read.
Klobuchar's office confirmed the senator planned to sponsor the bill.
"Sen. Klobuchar spoke with Abby this morning. They had a good conversation, and Sen. Klobuchar told Abby that she will be sponsoring the bill," Ben Hill, Klobuchar's state director, said.
Last month, Honold stood side-by-side with Franken at a press conference announcing the bill. However, after the allegations came out, Honold said she would like someone else to help champion the bill.
"I don't want this bill, which could help so many people, to be associated with this kind of behavior," Honold said in a previous interview with KSTP. In her tweet, Honold said she was appreciative of the support from Franken's office.
The bill is designed to provide funding for training first responders on ways of interviewing victims who have been traumatized.
Great. Will she propose to enforce it with a Federal Morality Police Force?
“The bill is designed to provide funding for training first responders on ways of interviewing victims who have been traumatized.”
Not a bad idea.
If she really was serious about curbing boorish behavior she would introduce a bill prohibiting the senate, house or any other government agency or bureaucracy from using taxpayer money to settle claims of sexual aggression or abuse by any elected official or government employee.
If someone (like Ted Kennedy) abuses someone they should be held personally responsible for any financial settlement.
They shouldn’t be able to evade personal accountability by buying off their victims with taxpayer money as has been done in the past and are still able to do now.
“The bill is designed to provide funding for training first responders on ways of interviewing victims who have been traumatized.”
Oh please.... just more theater.
After the Franken truth bomb exploded there was a young lady on FNC that had been assaulted by someone in Congress. She didn’t reveal his name but she said it happens often.
She also said Congress does NOT have an HR department. I was shocked to hear her say that.
So, in essence, the victims have no real way of reporting they have been violated.
As large as Congress is.... how is it possible for them to not have a human resources department?
And this stuff damsure shouldn’t be off limits to FISA requests.
Oh duh...
FOIA,
you big dummy
That would depend on who’s doing the training, and if it is really training and not just another ranting indoctrination.
“Great. Will she propose to enforce it with a Federal Morality Police Force?”
Amy Clusterchar is going to do what.
The bill is designed to provide funding for training first responders on ways of interviewing victims who have been traumatized.
Not a bad idea.
It’s not where it should be, but prior to the 1994 Republican takeover of Congress, the EO laws had made the relevant Senators and Representatives the sole authority in regarding EO complaints by their staffs.
That would depend on whos doing the training, and if it is really training and not just another ranting indoctrination.
She would also tell Al Franken to resign.
