I don't subscribe to that view, however I have seen arguments to that effect.
I'm certainly not the one to ask to defend that point of view. If that topic interests you, try googling "david and jonathan homosexuals". There are dozens and dozens of articles discussing the pros and cons of that interpretation.
From my own reading, I always thought the friendship would be considered atypical for men in our own day and age, but by customs of that time, probably not.
