Republicans, never particularly eager to hold their own to account, will use Franken to deflect from more egregious abuse on their own side, like what Trump and Roy Moore are accused of. Women with stories about other members of Congress might hesitate to come forward.
That horrifying photo of Franken will confront feminists every time they decry Trumps boasts of grabbing women by the genitals. Democrats will have to worry about whether more damaging information will come out, and given the way scandals like this tend to unfold, it probably will.
The feminist thinks: Who cares? Replace them all with women! But this frenzied moment will not end with the collapse of patriarchy. There will be overreach and then a fierce and ugly backlash, as men but not only men decide we cant just go around ruining peoples lives and careers by retroactively imposing todays sexual standards on past actions.
Besides, as more and more men get swept up in this moment of reckoning, were going to have to figure out some mechanism by which those accused of offenses that fall short of assault can make amends and get their lives back.
The question isnt about whats fair to Franken, but whats fair to the rest of us.
He should go, and the governor should appoint a woman to fill his seat.
The message to men in power about sexual degradation has to be clear: We will replace you.

There’s a photo of him. They have no choice.
Since when?
exactly, that’s why the dims are trying to make it look like they are concerned...
When the Noo Yorik Tymes gets on your case, just give up.
When a liberal has lost the backing of NYT, then you are officially badly burned toast.
Al Gropen, er, Franken should stop treating this as a big joke.
I’m no fan of him nor his politics, and I think he stole the election, but this is a stupid reason to dump him. This is what powerful men do. There is no story here. That goes for Moore, et al. People need to snap out of this foolishness.
Or we can just elect all women and see how THAT goes.
Go and NEVER, EVER, come back!!!
Isn’t Michelle Bachman from Minnesota?
She’d make a good Senator.
or have her run in the special election..:)
Couldn't agree more
Steve Bannon is rope-a-doping these people.
They are going to force Franken out, then get back on their morally superior high-horse going after Moore and Trump.
Then Bannon will drop the NEXT batch of incriminating photos of a Dem.
And Menendez? They must feel that they’ve successfully buried the news on him from the public.
Why not? They get to be 'virtuous' with no ill effects. MN has a dem Governor and he'll just appoint another stinking rat.
I want him to stay! The Never Trumper rino on AM radio in the morning said “Franken needs to set the standard so Moore resigns too!”
even the old grey floozy wants him gone...
...
Not really. They want Trump and Roy Moore gone.
“Republicans, never particularly eager to hold their own to account,”
No, they skewer them before the facts are in so their “good friends” on the other side of the aisle won’t hold them to the account.
