That’s my question: how do they differentiate CTE from dementia, or rather from other forms of dementia?
Does CTE cause the damage, exacerbate existing damage, is CTE really a syndrome/illness?
Just seems to me, and I’ve had 2 concussions and agree that getting your bell rung is never a good thing, that no one will benefit from bad science.
That’s another part of the problem. If tests for CTE can be done on living people, then will happen is that every NFL team and scouting service will be including these tests in every physical exam they give to current and prospective players. This will give everyone a baseline set of measurements for players before they sign an NFL contract. It will also cause a lot of current players to immediately fail their next physical.
Found this on a google search - "While symptoms of dementia can vary greatly, at least two of the following core mental functions must be significantly impaired to be considered dementia:
Memory
Communication and language
Ability to focus and pay attention
Reasoning and judgment
Visual perception
People with dementia may have problems with short-term memory, keeping track of a purse or wallet, paying bills, planning and preparing meals, remembering appointments or traveling out of the neighborhood."
Anyway if you do a search for dementia diagnostic criteria there are sites which I think might answer your question.
