Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell on Tuesday publicly floated the idea of getting Attorney General Jeff Sessions to take his old Senate seat, as Republicans continue to seek alternatives to Judge Roy Moore.
McConnell made the comments to the Wall Street Journal's CEO Council while talking about who could mount a successful write-in campaign, like Sen. Lisa Murkowski did in Alaska in 2010. McConnell said she was popular in the state and was universally well-known, qualities that Sessions has in Alabama.
"The name being most often discussed may not be available, but the Alabamian who would fit that standard would be the attorney general," McConnell said. "He's totally well-known and is extremely popular in Alabama."
"That obviously would be a big move for him and for the president," McConnell said. He said President Trump is discussing what to do in the Alabama race "in great detail" as he wraps up his Asia trip.
McConnell conceded that he isn't sure Sessions would come back after leaving earlier this year to take over as head of the Department of Justice. Some reports were already saying Monday that Sessions had no interest.

Does that mean the word is out that Trump is going to fire Sessions and he will need to get his old, swamp job back?

While there is much truth to that I think it even goes further. When Hilliary Clinton was thought to have claimed, they would all hang if candidate Donald J Trump was elected. I do believe that was true but she just wasn't referring to democrats. McConnell and many of the RINO leadership are out to save their own necks.

Sessions did that on his own today in his testimony to Congress.
As an Alabamian, this CONFIRMS to me that Sessions is a bought-and-paid-for, fully-compromised member of the Deep State-Media Axis. Wholly-owned subsidiary of the Demonrat party.
“JEFF SESSIONS *IS* DEEP-STATE.”
Obvious to every non drug addled and rational person since Sessions first recused himself.
Sessions was pretty clear today and it wasn't about draining the swamp.
He doubled down on his Clinton recusal. He said he was impressed with swampy Rod Rosenstein and he called him a friend. He left the Swamp draining responsibilities to Rosenstein.
And I think Trump has been clear telling us over-and-over again that Sessions is not with him.

Thanks for this summary. I did no get to watch the hearing yet; but, what you describe is EXACTLY what I expected to happen.
