It is a button on the drivers side that will lock all doors. Cars had that long before the 80s.
I saw it as a brand-spangled-new feature on the SAAB 95 Turbo in the early 1980s. But to this day, I've never seen a driver-controlled door-lock that would prevent a passenger from unlocking his own door from the inside. That would be unsafe. (What would be the purpose? Helping kidnappers? That's only available in the Menendez edition of the car. . .)
