According to his bio, he was.
“During his legal career, Chief Justice Moore became the first full-time Deputy District Attorney in Etowah County, Alabama, and served in this position from 1977 until 1982.

Something else wrong, too:
"Nelson produced a high school yearbook which she says is signed by Moore. “To a sweeter, more beautiful girl I could not say ‘merry Christmas,'” the inscription reads.
The note is signed “Roy Moore, D.A.,” and includes the date and venue of their purported interaction."
Yearbooks come out at the END of the school year (the FOLLOWING year) - not at Christmas!
