Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) on Monday called it “sad” that President Trump did not make human rights a priority during his meeting with Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte.
The White House said the two leaders “briefly” discussed human rights in the context of Duterte’s drug crackdown, but the Philippine president’s spokesman said the issue was not discussed.
Since taking office in 2016, Duterte has carried out a “war on drugs,” which has led to thousands of killings of suspected drug dealers and users, according to Human Rights Watch.
Trump praised Duterte at an Association of Southeast Asian Nations summit, saying the two have had “a great relationship.” He later laughed when Duterte referred to members of the press as “spies,” according to a reporter traveling with Trump.
McCain, who has been an outspoken critic of Trump, also ripped the president on Saturday for ignoring human rights violations during his stop in Danang, Vietnam.
McCain was captured and tortured by the North Vietnamese during the Vietnam War.

His injuries were from ignoring proper ejection procedures.
He sang like a bird and made propaganda tapes for them.
When he became a Senator he shut down inquiries into possible Americans left behind.
He was at the forefront of normalizing relations to the same Communist regime.
At the core of this, McCain is a bitter man who hates Trump for winning the Presidency. McCain will be gone and forgotten soon enough.
Agreed, McCain making these type comments when President Trump is out of country makes him a traitor in my book.
McCain certantly didn’t give a damn about human rights when he was arming Muslim terrorists in Syria.

Instead he reveals the party doesn’t have one.
McPain's bucket list only has one item on it--stab president Trump and the American people in the back every chance he gets before he croaks.
He's doing a bang-up job of it so far.
His legacy will not be that of a "hero" but as a petty, petulant, sourpuss of a man who is bitter that he didn't get elected to the presidency himself.
He's like the vengeful, evil ex-spouse who proclaims, "If I can't have it, then you can't have it either."
Imagine you’re a politician for over 400 years, and in the twilight of your career, you can only get noticed by invoking the name of another politician you despise. Such is McCain’s sad fate.
