Bodycam video shows LAPD cop planting drugs on black suspect: lawyer

Bodycam video allegedly shows an LAPD officer planting drugs inside a black suspect’s wallet.

*snip*

The suspect, Ronald Shields, 52, was arrested at the time and charged with felony hit-and-run and possession of cocaine. Officers claimed in the police report that they found a small bag of coke in the front left pocket of Shields’ shirt.

But bodycam video apparently tells a different story.

And since you can expect it, it’s ok to plant it?

Just because you see something on your TV or computer screen doesn't mean you know what's going on. There is NO EVIDENCE that the police planted coke on the suspect.

You have a violent suspect, fleeing the scene of the crime. .who is then found to have a weapon in his trunk. When cops even hear the word "gun" they go into a high alert defense mode as it takes only an instant of neglect to end up dead. .which is what cops are facing. . every damn day.

I'm sure that was the number one concern at that scene. Probably when they conducted the search. .it was another weapon they were searching for on the suspect. . and the contents of his pockets were searched and then emptied on the ground. . .but, believe me, they were searching for whether this jerk had a weapon on his person. . the coke was a residual aftermath and was put in his wallet rather than his shirt as an after-thought.

As someone mentioned, probably that was mishandled and the coke charge will be dropped. . .but to go ballistic on the cops and just get sucked into the media "cops are evil" narrative is just plain stupid.

The video does not show that the bag was found on his person at all.

Correct. But there may be video from the other officers showing that they found it in his shirt pocket which all of the officers involved agreed to in writing. The media is playing you for a fool. None of this was even questioned until it came to court and the lawyer thought he could get the cocaine charge thrown out by claiming it was planted. Since the judge disagreed, it is likely that the Judge has seen the other videos that the media WON'T SHOW YOU.

It shows the officer picking up a bag on the ground, placing the bag in the suspect's wallet, and then telling other officers repeatedly that he found it in the suspect's wallet.

I have to challenge the last part. The officer said the NARCO was in the wallet. He never said he found it there and it was very clear from the video that he placed it in the wallet in full view of the other officer AND the suspect.

May I ask you a few questions?

Did you watch the video?
How many officers were on the scene when this video occurred ?
How long was it between the time the officer placed the bag into the billfold, and the time he tells another officer that there is narco in the billfold ?

Lying Under Oath is one that calls for BOTH!

OK, but where/when did the officer LIE UNDER OATH ?

Just curious. Now that the article came out and has been discussed, have you heard or read anything about whether the cop has been charged with any crimes, or whether the Judge had enough evidence to make a proper decision and figure out the Defense Lawyer was just making a mountain out of a molehill ?

It’s odd, but I’ve seen no follow-up to the original story.

Do you know if the suspect, Ronald Shields, was found guilty of possession of cocaine ?

I’ve been thinking about how to rephrase my earlier personal attack. And yes, the way it was worded, it was just that.

SO...

Police on patrol notice a familiar subject pulling away from a known narcotics street dealer. Police attempt to pull him over. He leads them on a high speed chase, and in the process commits a hit and run. Eventually they catch him and search him. He goes to jail. Felony hit and run along with possession of cocaine.

His lawyer watches the video and tries to convince the judge that the cop planted the cocaine on the suspect. The lawyer is doing his job. He knows, as well as the judge and the cops that it wasn’t planted and exactly where it came from. The Judge overrules the request.

However, there are many organizations, especially in LA, that watch for ‘racism’ in the LEO/JUSTICE system. Not the real racism, but the kind that satisfies the tastes of the public.

So, one of these devoted citizens passes it on to the media, which is happy to have such a salacious tale to tell. They take only the core of the UNFOUNDED AND DISPROVEN accusation, edit any video down to only the parts necessary to support their claim, and then publish. No follow up is necessary because the intent was not to stop racism, the intent was not to prove the cop committed a criminal act, the intent was to sell laundry detergent. To sell it, they need you to read their stories. Right now, Cops being racist is a popular tome in LA. It mattered not one whit to them whether the cop was guilty or not, nor did it matter how obviously guilty the suspect was. It only mattered that you read their article and believed it.

While there may be many cases of corrupt cops, especially in LA, you might want to consider that most of these media sources are working directly with groups like La Raza who want to invade and conquer a huge section of the United States. They aren’t even trying to hide the fact.

Do you think it is possible the media is trying to sell you a lie , especially in this case ? Notice that any information or evidence that would disprove the racism/planting drugs has been conveniently NOT INCLUDED in the article. The Judge rejected the defense lawyers appeal. Wouldn’t you like to know why ?

> Do you think it is possible the media is trying to sell you a lie , especially in this case ? <

I think the media is trying to sell me a lie (or at least a spin) in EVERY case. Right-wing media spins. Left-wing media spins. Such is the state of journalism today.

And I do prefer the word “spin” to “lie”. Sure, some of today’s so-called journalists have literally made up stories. But it’s more common for them to just omit things, things than don’t fit their narrative. That’s the spin.

In most stories, facts are buried somewhere. The trick for the reader is to identify those facts, while avoiding the spin. That’s usually not easy.

In the LAPD “drug planting” story, I waded through the spin, and came to the conclusion that there is a high probability that the cops - at the very least - deliberately mishandled evidence.

Am I right? Time will tell.
