Yeah everyone is blaming the school system for the failure and no one is blaming the gimme dat tribe welfare hustling parent(s)(like you put it but more than likely parent). They are the failures here.
They hatch them but do not raise them or even try to educate them at home and they damn sure would not try to "scrape" together tuition to send them to a private school. They would wait on you and me to GIVE it to them. You knew that right?
I thought that was the objective? To dumb everybody down to the lowest common denominator? Isn’t that what common core is all about?
Change the textbooks a little:

Someone has to set up those spreadsheets -- and enter the formulas appropriately. Try that with recent high school graduates...
Obama didn’t keep them from learning.
Actually, he did.
Not directly, perhaps, but the policies he pushed and the attitudes and tone he set have had profoundly negative impact on not just the Black community, but society as a whole.
Education at all levels took a major hit as Obama politicized every aspect eduction and geared our schools up to indoctrinate students on Marxist ideology, identity politics, racial grievance , homosexual and transsexual issues and environmental radicalism.
Not much time reading , writing and arithmetic after all that and who cares anyway because all that old school is white privilege and if you are acting Black you have no time for that
At the same time our schools have been fundamentally transformed by the tsunami of illegal immigration. The demographic shift has been both sudden and extreme. Went to graduation ceremony this year at a local high school with the ex Principal of the school , now retired.
He was stunned because 90% of the graduating class was Hispanic.
When he retired 10 years ago the demographic make up was more like 15% Black, 40% White and 45% Hispanic and the socio economic demographic changed from working middle class to government assistance
Teachers have to deal with students who do not speak English, have no desire to learn English and who are illiterate in their native language.
Our public education system is real mess.
I really don’t see a solution here; not a legal one anyway.
Go to liberal schools, get a liberal education. At least they could name one of Maya Angelou’s poems. Baltimore will do the right thing and lower the score to pass math to 10.

I am not convinced that the motives were “well meaning”.
7 percent are white so they can’t count to 10 either. I just find this hard to believe. I would love to know what the minimum score needed was. A lot of tests require an 85 to be considered proficient.
I threw the “well-meaning’ part in there to be charitable and give them the benefit of the doubt, which they really don’t deserve.
Those schools must be run by right wing racists.
Strangely Maryland is the number 1 state in Education in the entire United States so there are so incredibly great schools. Why not send some of the students to Montgomery and Anne Arundel or Howard country where the schools are top notch. Howard county is a phenomenal district and it is not that far from Baltimore. Surely they can do a better job helping these kids then the schools in Baltimore. Can you imagine how much higher Maryland would be if they could get rid of Baltimore? It would leave the rest of the states even further in the dust.

Get these kids out of Baltimore Schools and into one of the fantastic districts that are turning out the best of the best in America.
The schools exemplify the ghetto mentality which has spread wider under Obama.
The ghetto mentality destroys everyone it touches.
Spent a good part of my younger days trying to help lift kids out of the ghetto and it breaks your heart. You really have to experience it yourself personally to under stand because it's difficult to describe.

Better yet, read ‘The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind’.
Admittedly, these are two very exceptional people. However, the problem is the ghetto entitlement ‘culture’ and the liberal aversion to accountability.

There is no easy solution, especially since over time those doing the teaching are lacking too.
A good first step would be to repeal mandatory education laws so only those students who actually want an education will be in school. The criminal element would then be out on the streets where law enforcement can properly deal with them.

I really wish they would close down the schools in Baltimore and send the kids to Howard, Anne Arundel and Montgomery County. It would actually save money in the long run and these kids would go from lowest in the United States to the highest in the United States. That would be worth the 30 minute bus rides for them. I just can’t believe that Maryland is number one in education in the country and yet allows Baltimore schools to fail.
Democrats are creatures held on the plantation. If you can even do simple math you aren’t likely to be a democrat for long. Count the black babies aborted or the shootings in democrat strongholds and your viewpoint changes. Public schools teach approved feelings and abhor facts.
