JFK once said, victory has a hundred fathers; defeat is an orphan. But in the wake of Ed Gillespies stunning, landslide loss in the Virginia governors race, it looks like defeat has at least two fathers.
On todays Morning Joe, Willie Geist reported:
The Gillespie campaign was whispering to reporters that this vote was a repudiation of President Trump.
Trump, in turn, laid the blame at the feet of Gillespie, tweeting he did not embrace me.
What are Republicans and conservative to make of a very bad Tuesday night? Theres good news and bad news.

They are sort of correct because Trump didn’t win Virginia. But then Gillespie distanced himself and didn’t win either. Bottom line imho most voters in Virginia are democrats.
They are not that sophisticated. These are lumbering RINOS and not super sharp people.

Generally speaking, yes, but when it comes to trying to save their own behinds and the “Deep State,” I’m not so sure. All the ‘whispering’ now to try and damage the President suggests this may have been the plan all along. They will take good care of Gillespie.
We are thinking along similar lines. As I wrote in the article:
“The defeat should also be a stark warning to those same Republicans in Congress: they need to put petty squabbles aside and pass some important legislation, starting with tax reform.”
Might be true IF Gillespie wasn’t a dyed-in-the-wool Establishment RINO that RAN AWAY from Trump every chance he got.
Gillespie is a Bushie—i.e., loyal to the Bush Crime Family. The vote is another repudiation of the Bush Crime Family.
But there are those who continue to shield the Bush Crime Family from the consequences of their crimes.
So, Mitchs globalist/open-borders nominee in Virginia goes down in an ignoble landslide defeat. And the candidate he unsuccessfully spent millions to defeat, the patriot Roy Moore of Alabama is on his way to a landslide victory next month.
Lesson learned: Ignore the McConnell/Rove/RINO crowd and pay careful attention to Steve Bannon when it comes to 2018 primary candidates to support.
You are correct. The swamp chose Gillespie to stop Trump’s momentum. Time for CINC to drain another 1/3 of it in one fell swoop.
Yup. Conservative everywhere may as well stay home from the mid terms because we’ll just be wasting our time. NOT! Sadly the rural Virginians will be saddled with the will of the belt way progressives who live in some of the wealthiest counties in the country. A voter map may show different but then again.....
I think this clearly demonstrates that conservatives reject RINO establishment types at ALL levels. Federal, state and local, conservatives are no longer willing to give the treacherous RINOs *any* stake in the game.
And this is the establishment RINOs own fault. For decades they have stabbed conservatives in the back, joined with Democrats, even radicals, to defeat conservatives, and generally ignored conservatives with great disdain and contempt.
Sure, multinational corporations and globalist billionaires have been more than willing to pour hundreds of millions of dollars into *their* representatives, so in exchange, the RINOs betray the United States and sell their souls to these corporatists.
But finally, the rank and file conservatives have had enough. They tried to offer the RINOs a place at the table, at least at the childrens’ table, but that didn’t even slow down the RINO arrogance and bad behavior.
So now, for them, nothing. And once the reigns of power are firmly in the hands of conservatives, nothing short of a purge of RINOs is in order. No positions of power or authority in the national or state parties.
None, nothing, not.
Gillespie is a Bushie. We’ve seen George W. in action - why would we want to see Ed doing the same?
Appears the POLLS were wrong once again. Leading by a slim margin but defeated by 8 points. Some have been drinking again.
The worst thing about Gillespie's loss is that it saves the Democrats from six months of bickering and finger-pointing and back-biting that a Gillespie win would have produced. Instead of fighting over that they have more time to try and come up with a coherent message for 2018.
If anyone is wondering why Gillespie didn’t excite real Americans, the fact that this whisper sounds true is the reason. I made a big get-out-the-vote effort, both online and in person. It was frustrating. It’s hard to sell a candidate whose best selling point is that he’s not as bad as the other guy.
And there you have it.
Face it, Gillespie was a dud.
Like I’m totally surprised by this, not
Did anyone think that the taxpayer-funded leeches employed in D.C. and living in VA were going to miss this opportunity to kick President Trump in the teeth? They were voting for their cushy jobs.
Democrats won where democrats win, the upset would have been if the republican won. Trump lost Virginia also so I see no change other than some republicans lost on the lower level elections.
Doesn’t seem like a win to me.
They reelected another Marxist to replace the one they had.
