Democrats appeared poised to make huge gains in the Republican-controlled House of Delegates — and potentially take control of the chamber for the first time in 18 years — as strong voter turnout put a slew of GOP incumbents in danger of losing their seats.
The biggest upsets occurred early in Northern Virginia, where Democrat Danica Roem became the first transgender person elected to the House of Delegates, defeating social conservative Del. Robert G. Marshall, R-Prince William, and Democrat Lee Carter shocked House Republican Whip Jackson H. Miller, R-Manassas, despite tepid support from his own party.

Move the capital to the bootheel of Missouri, and let that land be the nation's capital. The bootheel is over 900 square miles, which is plenty of room for everybody. Also make a law that people who work in the nation's capital must live in the nation's capital.
What's left of D.C. should be returned to VA and MD, or declared a historical site.
The capital has too much influence on VA's elections.
This election had nothing to do with Gillespie being a RINO, never Trumper etc. It shows that Virginia has gone hard left. Those who say that a pro Trump candidate would have won are kidding themselves.
Jill Vogel and John Adams were good conservatives and they lost badly as well. Virginia’s legislature is going democrat as well as the executive branch. There is no more check on the radical left in this state.
Expect to see the statues come down. They may declare sanctuary cities just to insult Trump. Virginia = California now.
This was more than Northern Virginia. The dims took the house of delegates. They ran the board practically everywhere.
What do you mean “your state?” It ofiginally belonged to Arkansas! And no, having DC in WI wouldn’t work. We’re not geographically centered.
8 years of democrats giving billions of dollars in the DC area will do that. Those folks lined their pockets from big government.
Indeed it appears they did. This was a huge victory for the Left and gives them a huge shot in the arm going into 2018 - the demoralization they suffered from losing all of those special elections is now no more. They have real confidence they can win big in 2018. They gained seats in conservative districts with hard core leftists simply because the turnout of the Dem base was so high even where that base was much smaller than the GOP base. Apparently all of that “backlash” from those disgusting ads they ran didn’t actually exist.
Warning sign here: We need to get that tax reform passed and give the economy a huge boost going into 2018 or we could be in very real trouble even with a favorable Senate map and seats that should not be vulnerable will be vulnerable as well...many of those House of Delegates seats that were lost should have been automatic Republican holds. No seat is safe if what happened in Virginia is replicated in 2018 nationwide.
Simple solution: Massively cut the government and get those rats out of Washington.
And under Obama a HUGE increase in Muslim immigrants in NOVA, along with the natural strong growth of Hispanics.
Do not underestimate the impact of Charlottesville, and the way the national and local media and Democrats exploited it to falsely smear Trump, Gillespie and the Dems with it.
BUT you are also seeing the effects of the 24-7 news hate cycle that denounces Trump as a criminal from the DNC-media.

I am sure this was huge voter fraud. The dems were scared and were not willing to loose another one. It had nothing to do with Gillespie. All three statewide Republican candidates had almost the exact same vote totals. The dems increased their vote numbers from 2013 on a cold rainy day. Also not likely. Most of it was around Richmond and Arlington.
Many of us have been warning about losing the Republic within a generation if conservatives, Christians and traditionalists do not make an immediate exodus from the socialist factories aka pagan academies aka government schools. There is still time. Do it now, or continue being ignorant fools and standing by as the Republic circles the drain.

Holy crap our side are a bunch of girls and doom a gloomers. Look at all the conservatives have one all over the country in the last 8 years. Why is Trump president? All these special elections went our way now one state, that’s been blue for three election cycles, is a sign of something ominous?
