I just voted in SW Virginia. Rural area, goes usually about 58-42 for the good guys (or at least the less-evil guys). More cars than usual for off year elections but no real wait inside. This was about noon. I'd guess that it was half of 2016 (Trump), and about equal to when Cuccinelli lost a very close race without any establishment help in 2013 to McAuliffe. Although the Dems have an edge in VA now, I still think it is very winnable for Republicans. My hope is that we pull out a win in a close election. For those conservatives sitting out because Gillespie is kind of gutless, I know you won't listen but it still needs to be said. You are not helping.
That’s what scares me. Earlier they were saying low turnout in Fairfax, they were on the phones, panicked.
Now big turnout?
Hopefully, you are getting conservative transplants in Florida who are fleeing the leftist craziness of California so they may counterbalance the kook-left retirees from New York.
I pray you’re correct.
It is that big in Fairfax. I just checked the election results from 2013. Fairfax County tallied 306,430 votes, which is where I live. The rest of Northern Virginia added 317,828 votes for a total of 624,258 votes cast in this part of the state.
Total votes cast was 2,241,071, which means Fairfax County had 14% of the vote (about 1 out of every 7 votes originated in just Fairfax County).
All of Northern Virginia had 28% of the vote - over 1 out of every 4 votes cast came from this part of the state.
Cuccinelli lost by about 50,000 votes statewide and lost Fairfax County by 68,000 votes. So, elections are decided in Northern Virginia.
The rule of thumb used to be, a republican candidate had to get at least 40% of the vote in Fairfax County to win statewide, but Gillespie got 40 or 41% in 2014 and still lost statewide by about 18,000 votes.
The huge deficits in Northern Virginia have to be made up in the rural parts of the state and it is very hard to do.
Trump got 80 to 85% of the vote in many rural areas of Virginia and still lost by the state by about 225,000 votes because Trump only got 23% in Fairfax County.
I’m 1500 miles away without a vote in this election, but have a general mistrust in polls - all of which say this race is virtually tied.
Gillespie will win by 5+ points.
Yep.
VA is a RAT State. Hillary won by 5. Glad it is a toss up even if Ed loses.
Really? Very interesting.

I seriously doubt my state of Maryland is a preferred destination for anybody hoping to flee Mexifornia.
We do have a GOPe governor who disavows everything President Trump advocates and he has not been able to budge the state assembly in Annapolis that overwhelmingly democrat.
We also have two dem senators and seven out of eight CDs are held by dem congressmen (I happen to have the sole GOP rep).
Finally, Baltimore is one of the three or four most violent cities in the country. You couldn’t pay me to go downtown anymore.
In No/VA too many legal immigrants along with transplants from the Northeast. A high turnout in NoVA spells doom for Gillespie. The Dems have won the last 10 statewide elections. Tonight, we will find out if VA is gone for good.
As they should, the federal government employee and poor immigrants that have swamp those areas have taken over the rest of the state. You’d have to have 90% turn out or higher in the conservative areas to offset an average turn out in NoVa.
Impossible.
I pray you’re right. If there is any justice in the world, the dems will be punished for that disgusting ad. Otherwise, the old dominion is drifting further to the dark side.
Ed was chosen because he should do better in NOVA.
Dave Wasserman: “theres real support for business-minded GOP nominee Ed Gillespie in Northern Virginia that didnt exist for Trump or 2013 GOP nominee Ken Cuccinelli.”
Fingers crossed: the high NOVA turnout could be because of Ed’s support.
Guess we’ll know as soon as some actual votes come in.
Baltimore is bad, getting worse. Reminded of Randy Newman’s song, “Baltimore . . so horrible!” The problem is that the liberals wreck a place like that and then move on, just like locusts.
Here’s a bump to keep my spot.
On Fox Business, Loe Dobbs said, “too close to call” and Ed Rollins was more optimistic.
Yep. Why are people even shocked at the results coming in when this is a solid blue state not thanks to transplants, that’s BS. It’s thanks to an ever growing Federal goverment who live in NoVA and the MASSIVE influx of immigrants over the last 10 years to that area. NoVA is what the left wants to do to all red states hence their hysterics over the wall and POTUS tough stance on illegals and immigration. They want to flood as many of their voters into the urban areas so no matter what the other areas in the state do, they’ll always win.
Yes Fairfax County basically controls the state vote. Funny how they are always the last County to report. Been that way since at least 2001. Where there is smoke, there is fire... Ed will jump out to a 3-4% lead then slowly lose it as Fairfax reports enough for Ralph to win by about 3%. I hope I am wrong and the real rest of VA picks up the slack.
with all due respect listening to anecdotal reports about voter turn out is like going by yard signs as an indication.
Fox reporter says their polls say voters think the Republican had worse ads.....Fox is basically calling this for the Dims
Oh my......Rove on and the other fat guy. Virginia is just like America......
