The declaration reverberated around the world the power behind the Saudi throne pledged to destroy extremism and return the kingdom to moderate Islam.
Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman's speech last month was part of a sweeping rebrand of a country that for years has exported a severe form of Islam, and produced most of the 9/11 attackers as well as al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden.
Driven by the young prince, the reforms are aimed at transforming the way the world sees Saudi Arabia, wean it off of oil, and remake the hermetic Gulf kingdom into a hub of international business, finance and technology.
The son of the country's 81-year-old king has embarked on a high wire act to consolidate his power, upending a tradition among the ruling family to keep disagreements private, and enthuse and employ much of Saudi Arabias population 70 percent of whom are under the age of 30.

Trump winning... Was the Bush/establishment enabling the Sauds?
SA has gotten up and smelled the coffee.
When it was announced that President Trump's first visit would be Saudi Arabia I was slightly taken aback.
Seeing how he was treated there though and now these events taking place to change the Kingdom. I understand that more got done on his trip than simply exchanging handshakes and autographed Airplane Models.
It should be called "Saharan Israel". His name should become "Governor Salman".
The Bush clan is shedding tears for this internal Saudi assault on the officially Bush-designated Religion of Peace.
They announced their Vision 2030 plan in April 2016, so no, Trump winning was not the spark for reform in Saudi Arabia.

They will go after him..it is going to be interesting to watch to see if he survives
Saw a post on twitter that even the lowest prince gets 5ok a month...cant remember how many he said there were..but number was high

SA needs to stop exporting Islam and muslims. Becoming Buddist would be a good start.

My thought to is that Trump used his influence to make this happen now.
Mark my words: As MBS is deviating from the strict path of Wahhabism, he’s not going to survive long in the Wahabbis swamp of Saudi Arabia.
Winning is correct. All this, including MbS becoming the new designated king, started happening only after Trump’s visit.
Yes but what exactly was in that vision..and how many revisions has that vision gone thtough.
Then we need to pray for his safety because what he is doing will make the difference in the years to come.
The Saudis need to kill the mullahs.
Note that Trump freed US energy production and began to crater the price of oil, before going to the Arab summit with his message.
Art of the deal.
No doubt that Trump has influenced/encouraged him to move into the actual modern world...
