Papa Johns is displeased enough with the NFLs ratings and response to national anthem protests that theyre reconsidering their sponsorship of the league.
The company is re-evaluating its ad campaigns, according to Julie Jargon and Andrew Beaton of the Wall Street Journal, and admitted that they will move their advertising dollars elsewhere if the leagues ratings decline which the company blames on the protests does not reverse itself.
If the viewership decline continues, we will need to shift into things that work more effectively for us, Papa Johns President and Chief Operating Officer Steve Ritchie said. We are anxiously awaiting a solution to be created. Thats what will put the league in a positive place for the players, the fan base and the partners associated with them.
Papa Johns has already started to pull some ad buys, though their assertion on the main cause of lower ratings would likely be disputed by many. Its the first real sign that a major NFL sponsor is threatening to pull out of the association on account of the anthem issue.
Same here.
So should Ford.
Yeah, that’s true of any car racing I’ve ever seen. I’ll bet pulling out of the NFL would help that bottom-line bounce right back. Papa John’s shouldn’t play this game of threatening to pull out and see what kind of wooing and concessions they can get from the NFL (like the guy in your office that’s been about to retire for like 8 years now). The best thing they could is to JUST DO IT. The more they slow-roll it, the more they’re not credible and the more customers they lose (it’s already 24% and counting, I can’t see a good reason for staying around).
i’ve already noticed more PJ ads on NCAA football games ...
If the want my familys business back, Ill first have to hear they 100% ended NFL sponsorship.
I don’t usually buy Papa John’s pizza and I have no idea if they are near my home, but I will definitely look them up and start buying from them if they pull out of the NF’nL.
I hope they punch out, too. They’ve lost 1/4 of their customers already, that should be all the justification they need. Put those ads into NHL, college ball, and car racing. Maybe even golf or something. I say get while the gettin’s good.
To each his own. :)
Do it.
At ours also.
It is a rather significant business decision...but I'm with you. It is a no brainer when you use your moral compass.
And with the loss of 24% of their customers right at the same time as these stupid protests, the choice is clear.
That is a big hit to a business.
Waiting makes you look insincere, at best.
I don’t disagree.
By the way, I am NASD. “Not a Single Down.” Just won’t watch again.
I haven’t watched either. Won’t miss them at all.
I’ll have pizza night, too, to support the decision.
I grew up on NY Italian Pizza. As chain pizza restaurants go, PJ pizza is the best, IMHO.
Yep - if he pulls the plug I’ll do something I have never done before - buy some of his pizza - so many choices i prefer not to pay ‘premium” prices for what others have called “substandard” - I can be happy with a frozen pizza with some extra pepperoni and cheese added before I pop it in the oven....
