At least 27 people have died after a gunman opened fire at a church in Texas during Sunday services.
The attack happened at the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs in Wilson County.
A police commissioner at the scene confirmed that at least 27 people had died. Several others are reported to be injured.
The San Antonio FBI branch said its agents had been deployed, and there was no indication of the gunman's motive.
The FBI also said that while only one shooter was reported, it was looking into other possibilities.
Local ABC affiliate KSAT 12 reported the gunman entered the church at around 11:30 local time (17:30 GMT). It also said he had been killed in the aftermath.
Photos and video from the scene showed the area taped off by local law enforcement.
A number of helicopters have arrived to transport the wounded, KSAT 12 reporter Max Massey said.
Texas governor Greg Abbott said: "Our prayers are with all who were harmed by this evil act. Our thanks to law enforcement for their response."
He said more details would be released by the Texas Department of Public Safety shortly.

Beginning January 1, 2016, Texans with a handgun license will be allowed to openly carry their handguns. Churches in Texas may prevent handgun license holders from carrying handguns inside church buildings as long as the church gives proper notice. Each church may decide for itself whether to allow:
Both open and concealed carry of handguns
Concealed carry of handguns but not open carry
Open carry of handguns and not concealed carry
No handguns regardless of whether they are carried openly or concealed
A church does not need to take any action if it wishes to allow handgun license holders to conceal carry or open carry in church buildings. If permitting handgun license holders to conceal carry or open carry on church premises is a cause of concern to your church, Texas Penal Code Sections 30.006 and 30.007 provide clear rules for notifying handgun license holders that your church is a gun-free zone or concealed carry only.
In order to provide notice that a church prohibits either concealed carry or open carry the church must provide written communication to gun license holders. This written communication may be done in one of two different ways. Either churches may provide notice on a document that is handed out to all members and guests as they enter the building (e.g. a church bulletin or worship guide) or churches may post a sign on the property.
If the church chooses to notify license holders by posting a sign, the sign must be in both English and in Spanish, appear in contrasting colors with block letters at least one inch in height, and be displayed in a conspicuous manner clearly visible to the public. Regardless of whether a church chooses to provide notice through a document, sign, or both, the language for the written communication must be identical to the following:
Well may he burn in hell, whichever comes first
I had never heard of not being able to carry in church so I did a quick check and brought this up.
“Just like concealed carry in schools and other locations, the legality of concealed carry in church is heavily influenced by state and municipal law. ... At present, only two states - Nebraska and Louisiana - specifically prohibit carrying firearms in a church or other place of religious worship.Apr 12, 2017”
*Aggravating*
Hell in the theological sense is being alone for all eternity.
Then don’t say give us BACK our right if it wasnt a right we had. I don’t carry (although I’m a member of the NRA), didn’t know you couldn’t carry in church everywhere and didn’t realize you were talking about “in church”. next time please be clear thank you
Not local? Is it not Chris Ward? I thought Ward is from Sutherland Springs, per his fb?
Or maybe the Congressman is wrong?
That is what I just said in two posts a few minutes ago. Exactly like Salon Meritage. Someone who was angry at someone inside. Dr. Gammer has been our dermatologist for years. His office is right upstairs. His life was spared that day as he was to get his hair cut right at the time the guy was shooting. He hated getting haircuts so when his wife said she had to go search Ralphs security footage for the guy who stole her purse, he said he would accompany her, and cancelled with the male hairdresser at Meritage, which in turn saved that guys life too, who left early because of the cancellation. And neither got shot. Amazing story.
Sounds like the work of fundamentalist Quakers to me!
Apparently most states do not make it illegal to carry in church, at least not according to the first site that popped up when I checked. I would check further but I’m at work :)
Someone else can check :)
Please. You disagree with Atheists, but they are no more violent than any religion except Muslims.
That is not true, Michigan is prohibited.
Antifa ?
Open carry only legalized last year. And only with a permit. Expensive permits with lots of red tape. Carry is illegal in churches, although only prosecutable if posted. Sounds more like Illinois than a supposed red state. So yes,Texas gun laws SUCK on ice.
Two of these stickers on the back of my car
In a parking lot a puzzled guy asked me if I carried a gun. My reply was, **Hopefully, you'll never know.**
Carry On. [My motto] :)
That isn't true. The opposite is the case. Currently Most State Laws Allow For Concealed Carry In Churches.
Not sure, but it is his district and he said it several times. He did not cite a source but he sounded sure. I flipped over to MSNBC when Fox was playing pillow commercials or something.
Where was He in his own house?
This guy is going to turn out to be another loser, who hated his life, wanted to go out in a blaze of glory and become “Famous” now everyone is going to know his name, just like every other loser mass shooter before him..they want to become famous, kill as many people as possible and then suicide by cop..read that this nut was running away..figures, a coward, just like all the rest of these losers they are cowards with no soul
My point is, repeal all laws that restrict law abiding carry, nationwide.
