At least 16 people have been shot inside a Texas church after a gunman opened fire during the Sunday morning service.

The shooting happened at the First Baptist Church of Sutherland Springs, where around 50 people usually attend service, according to local reports.

Witnesses said a man 'in full gear' walked inside the church and opened fire just before 10.30am.

Neighbors in the area said they may have heard the shooter reload multiple times.

Another witness at the scene said a two-year-old was also shot in the attack.

According to KSAT, there were at least six helicopters called in to transport victims to the hospital.

It's unclear if anyone was fatally wounded in the attack.

Someone on an interview mentioned the name “Chris Ward.”
NOT saying this is the guy, only that this person was mentioned as the suspect by someone in an interview. His FB profile is still up.

This is terrible. It really hits home when it happens in your area. I can’t believe it.

The main problem is that American society itself is sick to the core. These incidents seem to be accelerating in frequency. When I was staying in Poland not long ago, it wasn’t quite as ostentatiously wealthy as parts of the US, but it felt like a healthier and saner social order. They don’t have “mass-shootings” over there. Not due to any particular defense against them, but simply because their society does not produce the type of people who would WANT to murder their fellow Poles.

Unfortunately, that’s definitely not the case for Americans anymore.

One of the elders at my church was trying to see what would be needed to arm a couple members. I think he got shot down.

He shoulda been carrying.

Population of 362 for 2,000 census. Looking a maps, it’s a tiny community southeast of San Antonio, but is not near other towns of any size. Normal attendance for that church around 50. Looks like almost a third of the congregation was wounded in the attack.

What I just said. If there wasn’t someone from outside the population doing this, it was someone who was angry at one of the people in their lives who were worshipping there.

This is too close to home. I’m never going unarmed again. I carry most of the time, but I’ll be carrying all the time now.

As recently as my grandparent’s recollection, the interior of some churches faced the other way, in order to watch against Indian attacks.

“no guns in a House of God, remember?

I assume that is what you went by your comment.”

May vary by state, in my last state the minister asked cc holders to carry. In this state it is just assumed cc holders will carry at church.

“The death toll (27) now equals the Sandy Hook shootings.”

What are you implying? There are conspiracy people waiting for things like this. Now those deceased and surviving family members are recycled from past tragedies.

“May the piece of $hit who did this be slammed in jail and executed within a week.”......

Why wait so long? Shoot the bastard on sight.

Churches are not set up to handle violent entry. Most eyes typically have their focus on the pulpit and with backs to the doors. The exception is the preacher and music worship teach.

It’s time for armed members to excuse themselves from the service (or a service if there are multiple services) and monitor the entrances.

It is ghastly in any part of the country but it is frightening when it’s close by.

The Seal Beach massacre happened in a hair salon in the quaintest peaceful little town in Orange County CA. My family dermatologist is right upstairs from that salon. Too close for comfort.

Also this guy did a lot of damage in that church, so many dead. I am guessing no one was armed. Christians, take a lesson from your Jewish brothers and pay for one armed guard at every service or have a rule that your core members will take turns carrying.

Prayers up for this community and all affected.
