RE: Mila Kunis set up monthly donation to Planned Parenthood in Pence’s name

Is that legal?

Can one pretend to donate under another person’s name?

Yes. Legally the donation is from her for tax purposes, but attributed to him as a gift from an anonymous person.

My grandmother did this to me for years, donating to The Heifer Foundation in my name and I would get thank you letters from them constantly. Only after she passed away did I find out it was from her all along.

I do not think it is legal. I was thinking he could sue.

People do it all the time, often at a person's death the family will request that in leiu of flowers a contribution be made to a charity that is relevant to the deceased and the charities have a means of designating it as being in their name in a sort of honorary way (hence the letter of thanks that goes out to the person, it notifies them that it's been done because they didnt do it themselves) but the real records are clearly in your name for tax purposes.

This behavior sounds like fraud under at least two sections of 18USC. Any legal experts here who can clarify/confirm?
